Bringing a car from the uk

Hi All

Ok I am sure this has been discussed on here but cant find any threads.
If you bring a car from the UK what are the regulations regarding how long it can stay here?
I met someone at the airport that said she just goes to Rhodes every 6 months on a day trip with her car and pays £50 ish. Other people have told me the car has to stay out of the country for 6 months out of 12.
Also do you you drive it here on uk insurance and what about mots & tax for insurance to continue after 1 year?

You can bring a car in for 6 months, then you have to take it out again. You can bring it back in for a further six months, then you have to take it back out again. You can't bring it in again.

If you leave the country e.g. to renew your own 3 month visa, you have to park it in the customs area at Dalaman airport while you are out of the country.

While your car is out of the UK you don't have to worry about UK MOT or tax. But, if your car has a UK plate and is registered to a UK address, you will be committing an offence as soon as you drive it on a UK road. It might be worth your while sending a SORN to DVLA when you leave the UK. Your first legal trip on arriving in the UK is to an MOT station and thence to a tax office.

You should discuss insurance with your insurers.

I am aware of the 6 month, only twice rule. However i know a couple who have done this trip several times in the same car. They swear its not an issue, never had any problems.
