supermarkets
« on: March 18, 2009, 10:10:20 AM »
While on holiday we normally eat at our villa for lunch.
The type of food we normally eat is nice bread, cheese, meat, salad and fruit.

Are these type of things easily obtainable in Kalkan supermarkets?
Which supermarket would you recommend for choice and value?

What about getting your shopping back to your villa?
I believe that some supermarkets deliver your shopping - is there a charge for this?

Thanks

All is available, and some supermarkets will deliver to your villa for free. Provided you spend a reasonable amount. The Yali Supermarket does free delivery, only your shopping though :D
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

We tend to use the yali supermarket on the left as you go towards the market, simply because it''s near where we stay and it seems to have more choice...we buy bread everyday, and tend to buy our fruit and veg on the thursday market, otherwise the greengrocer just by the Kaya restaurant is fine..reasonably priced and good quality, you can buy cheese on the market although we don''t because it''s stinky goat cheese!!(they will let you try before you buy) we bring a lump of cheddar from home(yali sell it as do others but it''s expensive and plasticy)We tend to buy our meat from Bulent the butcher on the small row of shops by the old school....i''m sure others will reply with more info ;)..if youv''e got a water machine you might want to get a refill delivered along with your shopping
People Of Britain.. When your missus asks "Does my bum look big in this? Never say "Dunno your blocking the light."... just sayin ????

Yali has pretty much everything you might need, and the added bonus is it''s right by all the banks... and you can pop into the Cinar bar or the Nur for a quick little ''reviver'' afterwards...  8)

There is also the Tesko supermarket near the Samria Hotel that does pretty much everything too, this is just on the edge of town, there is also a very good green grocer near here on the same side of the road, his fruit, veg & salad is nice & fresh.

Bread is delivered to the supermarkets fresh everyday & it''s delicious!

We do a couple of big shops in Migros and Carrefour in Fethiye. Get our veg off the market- there''s a few little stalls down the steps by the taxi rank, and use Thursday market in Kalkan and Fethiye market on Tuesday. Having said that we usually call into Yali or Tesko for bits and pieces - we''ll be trying Adda this year as it will be closer and you get a an EK discount  ;D ;D
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

The guy on the market does sell sheeps cheese as well as goats which is lovely. He''ll let you taste them all. He also sells lovely fresh eggs and loads of different types of olives.Depending on the day you arrive, the fruit and veg market is also on in Akbel at the top of the hill on a Sunday. You would need a car to get there.

One of my favourite lunch treats is cheese, beef tomatoes, the lovely bread and some olives.

Kartin, which is just a few yards lower down than the Yali on the same side also deliver provide you have bought a reasonable amount. The fruit and veg shop is just a little bit further down the hill on the opposite side of the road which we tend to use until market day. If you want to eat sliced ham with lunch you need to bring it with you.
