Supermarkets?
« on: July 18, 2015, 12:33:31 PM »
Hi. We are in Kalkan currently for our second visit, or more specifically, Islamlar. I was wondering please, if anyone could advise on a good supermarket? We have been using Migros in Kalkan but are finding it quite pricey, and thought there may be a bigger/cheaper out of town option? We have a hire car so getting there isn't a problem. Many thanks in advance.

Migros is one of the best supermarkets for quality. It's fridges are cold - not everyone else's are. There is Yale on the same road/same side below Migros and BIM same road/same side above Migros. Yale is a locally owned supermarket and one of the biggest. BIM is the Turkish equivalent of Lidl without alcohol but popular with Turks. The nearest proper UK sized supermarkets are Migros and Kipa in Fethiye. There are no out of town large supermarkets in Kalkan or Kas.

Yali supermarket although well stocked can be expensive  we tend to buy what we cant get in BIM(opposite bus station)  or A101( nearly opposite Yali)  In Migros or Yali but our basics we buy In BIM or A101...Yali has a better choice of Alcohol than Migros  with BIM and A101 not selling any as said ;)

There is also Carrefores, which is another option, we live here so shop around, BIm for basics,  kitchen rolls, bread,  some veggie, kitchen cleaners etc, Migros for sometimes wine & beer, so if you have time have a shop around. We have friends who have places in Islamlar, they do use the little shop there for the odd bits but mostly Good old Bim.

Depending on what you want try using some of the smaller shops as well, eg the butchers,  veggie,  bakers.
