stop it ..your frightening me!..did manage to track down lime juice once in kalkan..i asked for an efes and asked the barman to stick a dash of it in...it wasn''t the same as ours...it was a syrup that tasted of sour limes!! it stayed in the glass as a blob!!the barman asked me if i had an upset tummy as that is what they used this syrup for...it was revolting but i had made a big thing out of wanting lime and  i drank it!!  :-X       anyone noticed how hard it is to get a lager and lime now in the U.K? a local hotel won''t put it in your glass but will put it in a different glass and you can pour it in yourself?  how strange is that..they cited eu regulations!!......PAH!! complete poppycock is what i say"!! just like you can''t buy a pork chop with a kidney in it!!
               PAH!!! 8)

Sorry to disappoint you all but the tree described  (at Yali) is absolutely, without doubt a lemon tree. Limes are not grown in this area because they are not used in Turkish cuisine. Lemons start as very small, dark green fruits, over a period of several months they grow in size but retain their dark green colour. Green lemons are often mistaken for limes and are sold in the markets as yesil limon.

It takes several months for a lemon to grow, ripen and became the familiar yellow colour we are used to. In our garden now all our lemon trees, which blossomed in March, are bearing small, dark green lemons. By October, I will be picking ripe lemons.

I do however have two actual lime trees, imported from the UK five years ago. Last year was the first time they bore fruit and for a couple of months we had fresh lime with everything. If anyone is around at the end of October, when they should be ripe, I am happy to share.

Things are looking good for my secret limes, last oct I had a few slices in Efes and v&c and----------------The "limes " were green. If as lantana says her lemons were yellow and her limes were green in oct, I think
I have found LIMES IN Kalkan. YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH.

63stay

I had an interesting discussion with the owner of the fruit and veg shop you describe. He is a little puzzled as to why so many foreigners are buying green lemons. He does indeed have 2 boxes of lime look-a-likes on display but they are still very much lemons.

He maybe puzzled, Lantana, but as long as he is selling them I am sure he is happy.
I''m not sure some of the boys really want limes. They seem to have missed your kind offer to share your limes, as they seem to be more interested in the "night-time raids" to get them.
Perhaps you should put some motion sensitive lights around your Lime trees to stop them trying to sneak in to get them

Lantana,

Perhaps you can arrange for your real Lime trees to be a "place of interest" given the amount of views and discussion limes have generated?  ;D ;D
Maybe Abi could add it to their list  - Sakklikent, Kekova, Tlos and Lantana''s Lime Trees - it has a nice ring to it - don''t you think? Obviously en route there would be stops at lemon trees masquerading as lime trees. In order to appreciate the wonderful splendour that is your trees you have to view the pretenders first. October excursions would have to attract a premium as this is when the tree bears fruit and obviously at the optimum time for viewing.

You''d need to make your garden a protected area...stop lizards and the like... ;)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)
