Turkey v Czech Republic - Euro Championships
« on: June 15, 2008, 10:19:15 PM »
Have just watched the most amazing football comeback in years!
Turkey has just beaten the Czechs 3-2, after having their keeper sent off!
I was absolutely delighted to see the amount of heart, guts and sheer skill shown by the Turkish players!!!
Being a Scot, I fully understand how difficult it is to win a game against all the odds  -  ALL TURKS SHOULD BE BLOODY PROUD OF THEIR TEAM. THEY WERE MAGNIFICENT AND THOUROUGHLY DESERVED THEIR VICTORY!!!!!
WELL DONE AND GOOD LUCK IN THE REST OF THE COMPETITION!!!!!!

Dave

YES INDEED! I, along with many other''s (Turks and visitors) watched the game at Yacht Point bar. The atmosphere was electric and with 2 goals in the last few minutes the place was rocking! A final flourish of fireworks and a great deal of emotion at the final whistle made it a great evening!

Let''s hope the next game is as exciting, and with a similar result but I am just not sure my nerves can take it! It''s almost as bad as watching England, but with a better finish!!

Shame the Turks are playing the most efficient looking team so far, Croatia.  I use to live in Prague, and watched the national team regularly, so was getting texts from mates there, asking about my loyalties, what with Mrs being Turkish.  But what a great way to move on.

Any views on another regular EK "contributor" NOT being a footy fan?

By the way, BL, remind me when you are in Kalkan.  I am due to arrive evening of 4 July and will be up for refreshment from within seconds of the bus from Antalya opening its doors.  Before anyone recommends Dalaman as an airport option, Antalya is an in-law thing.

I cant stand footy but the response when Turkey won was brill. I thought it was great all the bikes going through town and the fireworks. Cant see that happening in the UK. They would need a good fight and a few murders.

Wendy - whatever you think about footie, it''s an international language.  Learn the names of a few Turkish players and you''ve got friends for life on your trips to Kalkan  :)  The English newspapers are full of Turkey punching above their weight (in the nicest possible way).  Turkey - go do it all again tonight . . . . .  Layla x

Pity I shan''t be in Kalkan for turkey''s next game - the atmosphere was electric - the fireworks amazing and the tooting of horns and turkish flags were awesome and made me very proud to be supporting turkey!!

Onwards and upwards - but still wishing I could soak up the atmosphere there..!!

Good luck to them!

Fantastic!!! I''m still shaking but heading for the fridge for the Raki!!!

Hope everyone''s having a great night and here''s to thumping the lucky lucky Germans in the semis, suspensions or not!!

Just noticed the "murders" reference above.  Not on strong ground there, given what happened in Istanbul to Leeds fans, but agree that, if that had been England winning a penalty shootout (like that would ever happen), most of my local shops would have been on fire by now.

BL - may be visiting Tekin''s new place first on arrival - Cinars, behind Yali supermarket?

I''m just back from Kalkan, literally!  I really thought they''d lose against Croatia and said as much while there. What a fantastic result for them to have taken them out!  Brilliant.  There were amazing displays of Turkish reaction after the amazing game against the Czech''s earlier in the week.  I wondered how things would turn out after the goalie having been given a ''red'' two minutes from the end at that game.  It must be electric in town tonight. Wish I could''ve stayed another day. Wonder if they ran short of Efes?  lol
