Electrician and electric bills
« on: June 05, 2016, 06:51:58 AM »
I have a feeling my next electric bill will be somewhere between 400-500tl based on my current meter readings (2 bed villa/2 people). I assume this is higher than normal. Can anyone recommend an electrician, who speaks some English, who could run an electrical check.

We have just had our first electric bill (new owners) and was really surprised. We have had a full month of guests and we do have a pool, but the bill was 3,600 tl!  I thought this seemed high, but after 'speaking' to people on KTLN they say that if people have been using air con it could be that high. However we do have sensors so air con goes off after 20 mins. I will see what the bill is for June and we are out early July so will look into it.

Just received our latest bill - 58 tl (for a 2 week period) but no aircon use but washing machine and dishwasher use. Even if you quadroupled the charge it would only come to approc 350 tl.per month.
I would have thought that the aircon would not have been working much during the past month.
Something is wrong. Our highest bill in 2 bed apartment in August last year was 480 tl.
You might need a change of meter.

Sezkalkan did you buy your apartment from the builder?  If the apartment has been built for a couple of years but never occupied then it could be that the electric is still on the builder tariff  which is much higher than for normal occupation.  This happened to us, the water was again on the builder tariff and it took us a long time to get it sorted.

Hi littlemissy - no it was a resale apt.
I will email my management/maintenance co to see if they can shed any light on this. They may be able to check the meter for me.
Thanks tho.

Sezkalkan have you checked that the bill is only covering the month and doesn't have historic charges on it from before you owned it? If you can't read the bill go into the office to check.

I need to start this message with one of those very embarrassed, flushed face-looking emoji's and apologise to you all!  I don't know what came over me or why I did it, but I obviously got my lira and pounds muddled up - and I was very tired when I wrote the message about my electric bill ....... it wasn't 3600tl - it was 360!!!! I feel a bit silly now (well quite a lot silly!) - I am blonde but not normally that blonde!!
Thank you everyone anyway for showing concern and trying to help me out.
Whoops
Hope to meet you all in Kalkan some time. Only 31 sleeps for me now......
I'll double check everything I type from now on!
 ;D :o ::) :-[ :laugh:

Ha ha....It was worse before they devalued the currency many, many years ago when there were so many zero's it was easy to be 100% out.

I think £90 is probably correct! Pleased that you didn't start ownership with a big utilities problem.
