Mattress toppers
« on: June 10, 2015, 09:42:38 AM »
So sorry - this is a boring one. I'm always happy to receive constructive feedback from guests, and yesterday an otherwise very satisfied guest mentioned that they found their mattress too firm for their taste, suggesting I might consider buying a mattress topper. It's the first comment I have had on this issue, and personally I have always slept like a top in that bed - but that might have something to do with the Lal Rose. So ever-eager to cater for guests' needs, I started to do some research, as this is a new area for me. It is an item I would probably buy in the UK and take over with me, but once I started to look at the choice available and the reviews, I realised I would need some advice, and thought I would ask what products other owners favour? Naturally it would need to be washable, and I wouldn't necessary want to spend a fortune. My king size bed in Kalkan is slightly bigger than the standard king size topper - and I wondered whether an 'elasticated skirt' would be better than 'elasticated straps' - which I had on my mattress protector but kept flirting off. Some reviewers mention that a topper makes the bed unbearably hot - is this true? Any info/advice/feedback from owners or guests would be welcomed.

Hi we recently purchased one from Arcelik

It was for a King sized bed and cost 1000 TL and has made a big difference to the bed making it somewhat softer

As to whether it is hotter or not - it doesn't seem to be but then we have not yet experienced summer

Doubt that you can wash it as it is some 8 cm thick and at 200 x 160 is a big item

We bought a mattress protector with it to keep it clean

Arcelik seem to have a range of toppers which are available to order fro their catalogues in store

Have seen much cheaper ones advertised - but I suppose you get what you pay for [ hopefully]

Lots of new beds seem to be sold with a topper [ or it is available ] but these are usually a zip on extra which of course is not possible with an existing mattress

Go and speak to Taner in his shop at the top of cardiac hill. He has a catalogue listing many different types (of filling).

We recently bought a mattress topper 150 x 200 x 10cm thick.  Bought it online from https://www.yatakal.com/  Paid TL 659.  They sent it by cargo for free.  We bought a latex one but they have many types and also thinner, cheaper ones.  this is not washable, far too thick and heavy.

Maybe you are looking for a padded mattress cover?  Last year I bought thick mattress covers, pillows, pillow covers, pillow protectors and more from http://www.thewhitecompany.com and they sent me a huge box of stuff for a pittance.

I bought a mattress topper from Dunelm Mill for about £24 and took it out to Kalkan. Works a treat and doesn't make it too hot (I suffer from hot flushes). Aldi currently have some for sale, King size is only about £13 and they don't feel too bad. If it's only the one guest who has mentioned it and you don't have a problem with the mattress, why not get a cheap one and leave it in the wardrobe so that any guest can put it on if they feel the need. No need to spend hundreds of pounds.

We brought out a mattress topper from IKEA in UK about 3 years ago with the elastcated straps as you call it, & brought it out to Kalkan!  It softened the mattress & is cool, however this year as we are here longer now, we decided to look at something thicker but were quoted about 600 to 900 for a thick topper this year at a couple of places.  We decided to look at mattresses (which although ours was totally fine & clean) when it came to it a new mattress with "built in" topper we thought seemed better value, although it is very deep & we have bought new sheets to fit it too!  But it is heavenly!
