Your favourite Day Trip when in Kalkan...
« on: April 20, 2015, 12:54:15 PM »
Hello all!

Beginning to plan our Kalkan holiday this year (in scorchio August) and we'll be travelling with some Kalkan virgins this year so want to have plenty of lovely things planned!

My question is what is everyone's favourite trip/day out while they are in Kalkan? Unfortunately boat trips have been excluded by a sea-sick-prone friend but we're open to everything else  :)

- Sarah

Really does depend what you are looking for, if you like a bit of action then Saklikent or Jeep Safari. A beach?....take your pick Patara or Kaputas (both beautiful although more facilities at Patara). If its archeological sites...you're in luck as there are so many good ones in close proximity. As its August, a day up in Islamlar might be an idea - wonderful restaurants and slightly cooler. Or a town..? Fethiye?
If you hire a car, you could probably do Saklikent early doors, Tlos, Xanthos, and Patara for late afternoon and sunset... :)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Thanks for your replies! Saklikent will be a must I think and Patara is always a nice day out too. Jeep Safari I haven't tried before so will have to look into that!

Love both of those Joycie but SarahS mentions one of their party is prone to sea sickness....might also be an issue on the jeep safari if its motion sickness not just something that occurs at sea

We've done most of the day trips over the years. I would recommend the barbecue trip arranged by Kaya restaurant. I think they go twice a week, on Wednesday and Saturday.
A really fun day with excellent food. The swimming pool will really cool you down.

The boys at Kaya Restaurant to a good day trip to their family farm out near Berzigan...we've done it on our own & with a large crowd of friends, good fun.  Small coach trip through countryside, then lovely BBQ at the farm where they have a pool, do rifle shooting etc.  great day!

SarahS, I think most have been mentioned, but a trip to the Beach Club is a fab day out, Kalamar Beach Club do a free taxi service, and I think Kalkan Beach Club do too if you don't want to get the boat across, although it only takes 10 minutes.  Whatever you end up doing, I am sure you will all have a wonderful time. Enjoy and do keep us posted  :D

Snap Kuzu! We arrived in Kalkan this afternoon. We have friends joining us in July and will do the Kaya trip then, although we will probably go before then. A great day.

A walk from the  bedroom to the  sun lounger,  passing the EFES fridge   along the way of course , Well it is at least 10 meters  so I am getting some exercise along the way. This kalkan lifestyle  will be the end of me for sure.  That said,   every time I visit the doctors with heart palpitation's  and heavy sweats my doctor tells me I am suffering from kalkan withdrawal symptoms and must return ASAP. The prescription is  for lots of doing nothing by the pool  with lots of EFES to be taken at least twice yearly. One must not disobey the doctor of course

Another vote for Saklikent to include lunch at the Yakapark. Kaputas or Patara beach are both lovely in different ways and easily reachable.

kalkan beach club is nice, but not really a 'day out'.  I really recommend the boat trips but it does depend on the seasick ness sufferer.  I suffer too but have had no problems at all even when it was really windy.  You probably spend less than an hour and a half on the move all day!

Thank you for all the great replies!

Saklikent is a favourite so we'll definitely be doing that. I've heard about the Kaya trip too so will be sure to look into that.

All else fails I shall stick with BrianJP's advice!!

I concur with most, though Jeep Safaris do leave me wishing I was somewhere else!

Best trip?  The one to the sun lounger adjacent to the pool and bar.

Or into town for the restaurants.

Or to Adem's...

Or, most importantly, the one from UK to Kalkan - that's definitely the best day trip I can think of!
