Lira from the Banks
« on: September 26, 2013, 02:08:43 PM »
Hi everyone,

Just a quick question, albeit a rather stupid one!!!

If I take GBP cash out with me on my holiday will I be able to just walk off the street and change it up at the banks for Lira,

I have read a few posts on hear that have suggested Denizbank is a good bank for exchange rates - does anybody know what its opening times?

Cheers guys!!!

Quick answer is yes! You may need a passport though if you haven't got an account with the bank.
Opening hours are 9-5 at most of the banks but they may shut for lunch...don't know Denizbank specifically as don't use them, but those are the times for IsBank.

There is an exchange machine just outside Is bank. Gives excellent rates..  last night I got just over 3.18 Tl to the pound.  There was a small charge of 1.50 lira for changing £300,  great no queuing up in the bank and you can use it anytime of the day or night.

You will def need your passport.

Not if you change your sterling to Lira at the Isbank. You will need a mobile telephone number though, not sure why? I use my Turkish mobile number and have not, to date, received any spam from them and I have been changing money there for over a year now.

You can use a UK mobile number too.
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.
