Cheapest local restaurant
« on: June 25, 2013, 06:21:47 PM »
Hi

It seems that there's hundred of choices on where to eat food. Where would a local go though for really cheap tucker? We really like local cuisine (not too touristy) so places that serve the locals are where we are looking for. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Kev and Fiona

Hunkar Ockakbasi for one, usually packed with locals at lunchtime. Food is amongst the best you can get.

Yes Hunker is always full of locals. Another one is Alibaba's nigh on opp the taxi rank.

Fener Cafe on the harbour and Ayse's Kitchen at the bus station.

You'll find that locals eat in lots of the restaurants in town (those mentioned above included) but for good value meals also try Ata Kebap, Fındık or Cafe Ev. Pizza (Turkish Pide) is also good value in Fotos or Chillies for a change. We use the Hunkar and Chillies takeaway service a lot.

Suleymans Kofte hut is great, cheap & good food.  Not  great deal of comfort but if want to go to where locals go, try there.  Just up from Migros on the same side & he is  speaks english but his wife doesn't.

Another vote for Chillies and Foto's! Love Chillies, quality and price is fab. They also provide a complimentary starter of puffed up Turkish bread served with olives, garlic butter and Turkish crumbly cheese. The view over the harbor is also lovely there.

If you are up in the Kiziltas area  and want something local  without the trek down to town , Ayse's Kitchen  and Omars up at the bus station.

Had the best sea bass ever at Omars in May this year, and the prices were great
