Dollar travellers cheques

I changed some dollar travellers cheques at a shop in Kalkan and was told each cheque would cost 5 lira commission because this is what banks charge.
Also I think the exchange rate he gave me was less than shown outside the shop.
I wonder if I have been done?
The PTT say they no longer change them.

fact is, no one wants TCs.  You are fortunate to find anyone accepting to cash them for you.

Whenever you are traveling the best advice is to take a variety of payment methods and travel money. I highly recommend using the travelers cheques as they are more safer than cash.

Asuming you're British, it does appear to be a tad odd that you've used Sterling to by Dollar TC's and you now want to change them to TL Lira. Unless you tavel to the USA a lot?
