wine!

can anyone advic :De what nice wine to drink in Kalkan.  Not a heavy drinkerbut last time I went to turkey (which was 17 years ago I admit) the wine was awful.  Assume it has changed for the better?  Red/white/rose don't mind - look forward to any responses

Wine is fairly good in turkey now and quite drinkable
 
Angora or Kankya white or red is pretty good and you will find this in most supermarkets Rose has to be LAL

Hi,
Chill the red Angora and it's not bad. Have heard that Lykia wine made in Elmali is excellent. Guru's Place on Kas road were doing tastings.

Turkish wine is by and large very dry...similar to Greek wines,as Engineer says Lal rose is popular as is Cankaya white....many restaurants load the price..so we drink beer with meals and buy wine from the supermarkets,but hey have fun finding out which you like!!

Hi,
Angora is about 10TL in shops. The Lykia wine is not seen in any of the shops that I've been in. I think there are trips to Elmali to view the wineries, or you can make your own way. I heard that it is about 24TL for all 3 types. The Rose is supposed to be really good.

We tasted some of the wines at Guru's place and yes they were very nice, a bit more pricy, but good

Hi - talking of wine - my OH is 'allergic' to some of the preserving chemicals used in wine making these days and has been told that Cava or similar sparkling wine is by far the best for him. Of course, Efes is pribably just as bad, because of the yeast content .... Does anyone know if Cava or a similar sparkling 'champagne' type wine is available, and if so how damaging is it likely to be to our budget?

Local wines in the supermarkets are around 10TL, in the restaurants anything from 19-30, depending where you go. Inci the local sparkling wine is around 80TL in Coast, maybe slightly less elsewhere, but a lot lighter than most of the local reds, grab some fresh orange or pineapple with it to make it go further!

Thanks for that Merseydave, had not heard of Inci - so will look out for that. if the prices as silly for fizz - as they tend to be in restaurants home and abroad - we'll stick to good old G&T! (Well he will - I'm ok with my rose or Effes ...

kavak every time....coast@gironda do it as their house wine...how cool is that? and Bread and more serve it by the glass too......none of that sucking lemons look you get with angora!

Rosata (may be spelt wrong!) is our tipple of choice, a nice Rose

I used to drink Lal but found it too acid (finally traced Lal as the source of terrible bouts of indigestion) so now tend to stick to the Angora white which is not as harsh.  I had the Lykia sauvignon blanc/chardonnay the other evening at Gurus and unfortunately found it had the same gut rotting effect as Lal  The fact that Angora is 6 or 7TL cheaper than Lal is also no bad thing

My OH is exactly the same, the local Turkish wines make him a bit ill, rather like the cheaper supermarket plonk here in the UK.
 I like the local sparkling wines and the Lykia white wine, but my OH, who drinks a lot of good wine in the uK won't touch Turkish wines at al anymore.

Go for the Lykia white wine...Its excellent in taste and you will go allergic.

Hi, we did a wine tasting in the Lykia wineries at Elmali in October. Some of the wine was very nice. We got a case of the rose. All the wine was a cut above the local wines you can buy in Kalkan. I know the Doy Doy sell Lykia wine but it would be double the price of Angora.
