This may not be relevant, but I want to just share with all EK Forum members how wonderful I thought the opening ceremony was tonight. It makes you so proud to be British!

Yes Jayne I admit, despite my most cynical prognostications a great performance. Loved it. Particularly proud to have trained and worked at GOSH, and met my husband there. YES. Back to scrabble??

I really didn't want to watch it but OH was really excited about it and had been looking forward to it all week, well, i was totally blown away by it!! What a show! Loved the Bond scene, loved Mr Bean, and Skunk i loved the GOSH bit. You should be proud of yourself having a connection with it. And how clever was the end with the copper petals, amazing.

Thanks Holmfirthnicky - I gree I was very sceptical but amazed it was so good!

Like you, loved the Bond and Mr Bean.

I do hope there will be another chance to see it as it cost so much to produce and probably loads of people have missed it one way or another.

I bet they will but in the meantime I watched again on BBC 1player - definitely worth a second veiwing! Lizilu can you watch it on your ipod while you are there?

Sorry Toni, forgot to thank you for that tip but loved watching it again - one of the nurses on there I trained with all those years ago - she was still there when I went back a couple of years ago. I still think my highlights are the Queen/Bond, Mr Bean, some of the music and the copper lights at the end. Also David Beckham riding up the Thames in the boat - reminded me of Venice and the scene of Julie Christie making her way to the island to go to the funeral of her husband. So dramatic. Also loved the concept of handing over to a new generation of sportspeople. The first games where every country has female competitors.

There will be an official DVD of the opening and closing ceremonies, the whole idea was to make it as a film rather than just an event for the stadium.....

I'll have to buy the DVD as unfortunately unable to watch it on my iPad. Hey misty, wonder if they are selling them here on the market yet -genuine fakes?
