Hunkar Ocakbasi
« on: July 05, 2012, 09:44:18 PM »
Hi, have been reading lots of very good reviews about this place and wanted to ask a couple of questions. 1 is it a restaurant as well as a takeaway and 2 does it serve wine? Or can you take your own. I will be arriving about 10.30pm on Sunday night and staying at the Samira so looking for somewhere close to eat. Thanks in advance for any information ps have searched on here and TA! :)

Hi Tonik

Both sit in and takeaway. Had lunch there on Wednesday and heading down again today. Not sure about wine but will ask later and post back :)

yes agree with ianb, they tend to close about 9.30ish - or they did when we were there last month. Worth going to though at some point as this place is a little gem. The Soup Kitchen will be open and just a short walk down from Samira for their fabulous spicy lentil soup.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

The chicken şiş is the best I have ever tasted, it almost melts in the mouth. Unfortunately, it is getting to be very difficult to get in there in the evening.

We had a take away from Hunkar last week and it was past 10 pm when we ordered it, We had the chicken shish and it worked out cheaper than cooking in your self, 9TL each and it came with plastic knife, fork, wet wipe, salt and pepper and even a tooth pick!!
Deffo will be having more take aways from this great little place when we are back in August. You cant beat it!!!
Also noticed the other day it is now number one on Trip Advisor!!!

We went three times in June, even ignoring the bargain prices the food is excellent. On our first trip I had a chicken kebab that was even better than the one I had the night before in Kaya and one third of the price.

They seem to close when the food runs out, so timing is variable depending on how busy they are.
