Todays commission free rate from Travelex (bought on-line with debit card and to pick up at airport)

Beat that if you can!

Has anyone else found that their credit cards offer a rate often 3 or 4 points better than many of the shops here or even in the UK?  Obviously less than practical for the smaller purchases but good for the larger!

Yes. I used my halifax credit card to take out £588 in lira not only did I get a better rate than the shops in Kalkan it cost me a total of 65 pence in interest I think that is good value. I did clear my card as soon as I was able though.

I took out 500TL on my Nationwide visa debit card and it cost £4.88, with a conversion rate of 2.5765TL at a time when it was about 2.6TL to the pound wholesale.
Capital 1 credit mastercard converted 169TL to £ 67.15 at 2.52TL on the same day.
Shops in the village were advertising 2.55TL on that day and you got 2.59TL in the post office.
There - over there, there are.            To - Going to
Their - belongs to them.                     Too - In addition, Also
They're - Short for they are.

Pedant! me?

Hi Tonik,
We've just got a Halifax clarity card as well. I know Halifax don't make charges for using ATM's in Turkey but understood that some of the Turkish banks charged you. Which ATM did you use?
Thanks.

I used a selection in Kalkan no charges from any of them. Akbank, ISBank and one other but my statement is not clear, plus of course restaurant bills.

Metro Bank (London areas only) do not charge for using debit card abroad. Trust me, I used it in Kalkan in June.
