ATM Card Fraud
« on: June 08, 2011, 06:31:51 PM »
KTLN report another case of ATM card fraud. To reduce chances of this, does anyone know a bank with an internal ATM for use when open?

I dont think any of the banks have ATMS inside.
So we just have to be very alert when using the machines.I used to work in branch banking in London and have seen many, many fraud attempts.
Make sure nobody is hanging around and if you are unsure about how to use the machine ask one of the staff to come out and help the first time you use it.Dont accept help from anyone else and concentrate on what you are doing, dont allow yourself to be distracted.
Make sure that there isnt anything stuck on the machine that you wouldnt normally expect to be there.
Dont use them at night and always ensure your pin isnt visable to anyone nearby.
Recently I was waiting to use a machine and the lady in front asked for my help. She wanted to tell me her PİN so I could input it for her as she didnt have her glasses!!
Be alert as you would be using a machine on any UK high street. There are fraudsters everywhere - even in Kalkan!!

Very sound advice I always allow my OH to use the ATM whilst I cover her by standing facing away from the machine just in case someone wants to get too close for comfort......I still believe the biggest threat is when you allow your card to be taken away when paying for a meal etc etc  ;) ;)

...and don't forget that unlike UK ATM's, the machines give you your cash before returning your card so don't walk away as soon as you get your cash and leave your card behind!

Did this yesterday at Deniz bank branch machine. It was half an hour before I realised what I had done. Fortunately the machine had taken in the card and I was able to claim it back today. Scary though, as my account details were open for the next person to dip in to.
