Baklava and vintage cars!
« on: February 06, 2011, 02:27:33 PM »
Hi all,

My partner and I are getting married in Kalkan in a few months time and I was wondering if someone could tell me

1) who makes THE BEST baklava in Kalkan/Kas (for bulk sale and has to be seriously good! ;) )

2) does anyone know if there is any vintage/classic/interesting looking cars in Kalkan that I maybe able to hire to take us from the villa to venue on the wedding day.

Your advice/help would be greatly received.

Heather and Burak

Hi HeBu,

Not sure about the baklava but there are hundreds of vintage/interesting looking cars around. Not what I'd call classics mind!
Great place to get married though.

We got married in Kalkan last summer and it was perfect - you have made a great choice.  Haven't seen any vintage/interesting cars though, sorry.

We bought a huge tray of baklava from Nur Patisserie near the yali supermarket and it was yummy.  We ordered it a couple of days in advance and had to pay a deposit on the tray which was refunded when it was returned.

Have a great time. :)
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

I know a man with a rather classic  open Mercedes, non-vintage, but I am sure he would help for a glass of clear spirit. >:D

Thank you all for you replies.

I will investigate the baklava at Nur nr supermarket, glad to know i can wait and do that when we get there, obviously will have to eat/try at least a kilo of it to test before i buy!

Merc sounds very interesting indeed. Would i be able to ask a couple of girl questions, what colour is it and is it a new or old model? There will definately be lots of the clear spirit around i'm sure.

Many thanks
HeBu

Yes BH noticed the Mercedes being driven (pale blue, I think) around and then we bumped into the owner in Ramis - its a lovely car! I like the old unusual beat-up cars I've seen the locals use for their wedding parades and the guy who runs Chops in Islamlar has/had a VW camper van which would be a cool mode of transport.
I hope you have a great day ;D
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

What about the bright yellow motorbike and side car,I think it used to belong to one of the hotels down the rd on the left on kalamar rd,just before Pasha, may not be around anymore, but its different.      ;D

Thanks everyone for the exciting options.

Other half is most interested in the yellow bike with the side car! Our first choice was a Harley with a side car but gave up finding one in Turkey let alone Kalkan a while ago!

Local beat-up cars sound great as well. Wonder if its worth trying to  find one when we get down there in the week before the wedding by strolling round the town.

There's a stretched VW Beetle in Kalkan, I think owned by the stationery shop guy next to Baris's mobile phone shop opposite the taxi rank. He uses it for weddings !
