Could Santander be the new Nationwide
« on: October 19, 2010, 08:14:53 PM »
Ok i know u have to have a mortgauge with them or a qualifying account and pay at least £1000 a month into the account to qualify for free use and free atm withdrawls worldwide but theyre also giving you £100 for swapping at the mo (and think how many/much Tattoos, Soccer Shirts and Booze you could buy with that lol) so if youre thinking about changing your main bank account like I am at the moment have a look at Santander's Zero Current Account  :) and i dont work for them :)so im impartial  :)

Have to say that everyone I know who has an a/c with S*nT@nder is just aching to change as they seem to be the bank that gives the most hassle & problems.

No such thing as a free lunch!H

By default my account I opened years ago with Girobank is now with Santander.

I had a problem with the verified by visa which potentially could mean someone was trying to access my account, I called to report it 5 days ago. As I apparently failed to answer correctly one of the 15 security questions, although they refuse to tell me which one they would not continue with my call to report the security issue. Then bingo yesterday on the UK news it tells me there is a big security risk with the Verified by Visa thing. I emailed Santander 5 days ago, and no response, my next stop will be UK press. I & family members have had several other issues and believe the service had gone from bad to worse.

Actually IanTrishinHull I rather hope you do work for them, as maybe this way they will realise they will be receiving some bad press

Like Mercimek my A&L account, which I never had any problems with and was very good, is now Santander. No communication from them to say that the Sort Code would change and that all our direct debits would need to be amended. So when we got back from Kalkan and had a stack of letters notifying us of our change of bank account details I thought someone had hacked our account until I realised what was happening. I am now considering changing our account. I don't know anyone who has a good word for Santander Customer Service.

I have had the misfortune of having to speak to Santander Customer Services, ive decided their business strategy is to make everything so difficult you give up and never ring them again - terrible company

"We are Santander".... yes, many things could be said about that!

I will be switching from Santander(Nationwide) in the near future, because they are starting to charge and poor service.

The best alternative I have found so far is the Halifax clarity card (link below). This has no charges and if you take out their current account you get £5 cash back each month you spend over £300 on the card.

If anyopne has found a better deal I would be interested in hearing

I've not got an account with Santander, but it seems to me that all you read is very negative comments about them.
Looking at the state of the Spanish economy, I would be very cautious about letting Santander look after my money, or carry out any financial dealings on my behalf.
I think they are too big for the Spanish economy to support in the event of financial problems and they have expanded too quickly by acquistion.
Be very cautious in dealing with them.

We switched from HSBC to Santander Zero account this year and haven't had a problem - touch wood..though probably just jinxed us by saying that ::) ::)
Maybe its a "brand new customers only" thing :)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)
