Agree with Deepasforever1 the Sea Bass with spinach and blue cheese sauce at Doy Doy is superb. Best value for great food is Begonvil Cafe, great food and lots of character.

Fez for me - we went 4 times in 2 weeks which is something we would never usually do!

I think Firecat hits the nail on the head,there are several factors which all contribute to the overall dining experience. It only needs one of these to be below par to result in less than the perfect meal. We tried 10 restaurants ( report to follow ) and paid a second visit to three of them, and on each of the repeat visits the overall experience was slightly different from the first visit. As for choosing one, - its impossible, how can you choose one diamond from a box of diamonds ?

I am a regular visitor to Kalkan and kept hearing about Chapter One Restaurant,(formerly Daphne's) so tried it and have to agree it's certainly one of the best.

Chapter One, first time was fantastic, those chicken livers..................free brandy it was excellent.
Second time not any where near as good, my wife (she does this a lot) said "I loved what I had last time so I will order it again". First time, on a skewer with a little sauce, looked great, second time like a stew on a plate!
Chicken livers second time round not cooked as well, more braised than char grilled.
I have a theory that the initial experience is to get you to recommend to others etc, just a theory!

come on now! do you really think that the waiters would say to chef that "this lot have been here before" dont worry about the meal being good? think not!
every one has an off day and though its not good if you are running a kitchen it happens. i have also been to chapter one and have never been dissapointed think it is the best of the new restaurants this year

I agree with some of the above posts. At some restaurants the more you visit the standard of food and sevice seems to diminish. From experience one restaurant comes to mind and that is Omar's. The first two occasions we visited Kalkan we frequented Omar's many times because the food was excellent value for money and Omar and his family/staff were very friendly and hospitable. We subsequently frequented the restaurant each time we visited Kalkan. However, on our last visit - last May/June - things had changed. The food was mediocre and Omar appeared sullen and disinterested - he did remember us from our previous visits but this didn't seem to make a difference.

Funny 'cos we went to the Aubergine twice, food and service was excellent both times.
And yes my wife did order the same!
Certainly for me I looked very different on my visits, first time pale and pasty looking, second time bright pink!
I concur could be an off night, perhaps even a different chef?

Just back yesterday, Korsan Meze is back to its best -  fabulous meal, Doy Doy was superb, Ramis was excellent, Chillis brilliant, Merkez as good as always. Only one poor meal and sadly that was at Kaya which has always been one of our favourites. Service was slow, food average and portions miserly!

No. 1 - Merkez. Best value for money.
No. 2 - Atlantis. Food and view.
No. 3 - Aktin. First visit this year near end of 2 weeks. Too late to return, but will. Good food, friendly, and, 'me no like - me no pay', they kill the 'bloody chef'!!
