OK... this is a bit cheeky, but as it's a music thread hopefully no-one will mind...  ;D

I've recently started writing with a great young female singer and we've got some new material being released shortly... if anyone's interested, please have a listen to some of the tracks on this link:

http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/control_room/alexandralegouixandsunflowers#/alexandralegouixandsunflowers

Let me know what you think - honestly please! The single is going to be "Facebook" with "Lola" and "What's The Fun" backing it. It may not be your cup of tea but honest opinions would be most welcome as we are doing some market research generally to decide who to aim the publicity at...

cheers

Martyn  ;)

For instant 'up' feelings - Dancing in the Moonlight - Toploader

This always makes me grin, apart from it's obvious happy clappyness, it reminds me of my elderly mum. Yes I know - weird. But, she loved this song, and we'd both sing along on the tops of our voices - with mum's rendition in her usual singing style of Vera Lynne!
Always makes me smile ....

Once played Beat the Intro at a mate's house - lots of whisky and music and I was on fire.  My mate threw in a random classical track and I said 'as far as I know, that could be Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor'.  Seconds later, after checking the CD box, he threw it to the floor and walked out.

Have we had Baker Street for a top intro yet?

All Right Now, brilliant track, the first four chords on the guitar always gets a cheer, very popular with all ages at my band's gigs. I'm compiling  a list of my favourite intro's and outro's and will post it soon. We are gigging tomorrow night (9th) in Littlehampton, locally known as LA !!  Cheers, Allan.  8)

For classic  intros it's probably easiest to refer to the "Banned List" that is displayed in virtually every guitar shop I've ever been in. (These are riffs that guitar shop owners/staff have become sick of hearing, due to ham-fisted attempts to play them by would-be guitarists trying out their prospective purchases). In no particular order:

1. Smoke on the Water
2. Stairway to Heaven
3. Sweet Child of Mine
4. Sunshine of your Love
5. Smells Like Teen Spirit
6. Sweet Home Alabama

Have you noticed they all begin with "S"?  There's more, depending on the average age of the staff & clientele (and the sense of humour of the shop owner)  O0

This would be like trying to do an 'All time Top Ten' of fave music.. impossible!!

Some great suggestions already, so here are a couple of quick ones from me:

Intros from Bruce -
* Thunder Road
* Born To Run

Intros from others -
* Radar Love (Golden Earring)
* Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division)

Outros -
* Layla (long version) - Derek & The Dominoes
* Merry Jingle - The Greedies (good Intro too!)

I may be back with more but I have stuff to do (according to my OH)  >:(
Born To Run - the Boss rules!!

Well, here they are;    Intro's

                               'Who Do You Love'  by Juicy Lucy.  Remember this?

                               'Sweet Child of Mine'  Guns N Roses. (gets a great cheer at gigs!)

                               'Son of a Preacher Man'  Dusty.  Listen to the sublime bass on the intro.

                               'The City'  Fleetwood Mac.   A rare one this, from the 'Mystery to Me' album.

                               'The Sea.'    Fotheringay.  Sublimely calming and soothing. That first cymbal crash just sounds like a wave breaking on a pebble beach. Then Sandy Denny's lovely vocals. Bliss!

                                'Rock and Roll' & 'Black Dog'  Led Zeppelin. The intro's to these grab you by the scruff of your neck and literally throw you into the rest of the track. Brilliant stuff! Drummers nightmare, unless your name is Bonham. Not just the timing, but the feel!

                                 'Layla.' (long version)    Derek and The Dominos. Nothing more to say about that supreme intro, but the ending does just sound like the emotion of the song has exhausted itself. Wonderful Slide guitar on this track from Duane Allman, who taught Eric to play slide guitar. He was sadly killed in a motorbike crash soon after.

Will post some more when I hear/remember them. Cheers, Allan.   8)

A couple more great intro's;

                 'Teenage Kicks'  The Undertones.

                  'Day after Day'   Badfinger. An Achingly beautiful pop song.   8)

How about the amazing intro to 'Spirit of Radio' by Rush. This makes me catch my breath!
Prog rock, call it what you will, all propelled by the amazing Neil Peart behind the kit. Oh, for an ounce of his talent.   8)

On a cold winter's day recently, after a dreary slog at work I came home to find my daughter playing piano and singing a song called Sail Away by David Gray.  It was a real tonic and made me think of our summer hols in Kalkan. And it's grown more and more on me since I put it on my spotify playlist.  mmm bring on the summer... :)
 By the way, can you get Spotify in Turkey?

I have just remembered the brilliant intro to     'Riders on the Storm'   by The Doors.  It sets the feeling of the song so effectively, great keyboards, and claustrophobic rain!

                                                              Cheers all, Allan.

Great intro to 'Stay with Me' by the Faces.  My band played this track before we had a change of lead singer, might put it back into the set.   8)
