Roadworks - Still a problem with noise?
« on: June 15, 2010, 02:02:43 PM »
Hi, all. There was mention of the noisy roadworks some weeks back. Are they still underway? And if so are they still noisy? thanks in advance.

As we had hoped, the work being done now is much quieter and is definitely construction rather than destruction.  The upper carriageway has had lots of small stones and gravel spread and steamrollered on it, so hopefully tarmac is the next stage.  Generally, noisewise, no problems!

It was pretty busy whilst we were there last week - from the taxi roundabout up to Yali supermarket is the worst bit with cars, lorries and scooters coming from all directions. It can get a bit tight and the cars parked on the side of the road around there don't help - we had a couple of close calls with wing mirrors!

I spoke a bit too soon (not for the first time).  A bit of digging and scraping work started this morning on the lower carriageway, near Kelebek apartments, at 0645am.  Not too noisy, mainly just the digger's reversing alarm!  Progress is still quite good, so I may look at the Little Chef franchise again!

One other thing about the new road - the surface is already good enough for delivery vans to travel at about 40mph plus!  Dust schmust!

Hi, I thought that Kalkan had a no construction policy from end of April till October. Does this not apply to the building of new roads?

But,if the work didnt stop every year, mainly because of tourism, the D400 would be finished in Kalkan and on the way to Kas,then this year there would be no complaints,no power cuts and no lack of water in Kalkan, maybe just maybe.  ;D >:D
EFES TIME AGAIN !

Local projects have to stop in mid May - the road is a national project, organised by  the central government in Ankara, so they can go on all season, but at least most of the noisy stuff is done, hopefully.....

Further progress - layers of smaller shingle now being spread.  Unfortunately, the access road down from KızıltaÅŸ near the Bella Monte hotel is blocked for cars by more piles of the shingle but passable on foot.
