New user needs accommodation help please!
« on: January 20, 2010, 11:03:59 PM »
Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help please.  I'm looking into booking 2 weeks in Kalkan in July for just myself and my 8 year old daughter.  I'm looking at flights at the moment but wonder if anyone has a reasonable studio/room to rent that is central for us for under £300 for the fortnight.

Money being fairly tight for us and having read some posts on here, don't want to be walking back anywhere by myself with my daughter at night.

Anyone with any knowledge, advice or who knows anyone who could give us a special rate would be much appreciated.  ;D

Many thanks!  :)

Hi Marje40, welcome to the forum.  Select advance search on www.ownersdirect.co.uk and select 1 bedroom apt.  There's one or two that are just slightly over your budget.
Hope you find something suitable.

Hi Charlie,

I did have a look at this site earlier but thought I'd post on the forum to see if anyone might know someone who had something within my price range.

Holidays are expensive when you're a single parent!

Thanks again.

Marje,
Even if an apartment looks out of your price range, always ask if they can do it for £x.  Many villa and apartment owners would rather have a firm booking even if it is for a little less than they would ideally want. x
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

if holiday funds are tight, why not go on holiday for a just a week, that way the apartment owner can cover their costs for your stay.

Try flexitrips.com,its a tc site,samira dlx £316,samira hotel/apt £364-1bed apts,its not under £300,but its not bad.
Also,try www.Airflights.co.uk for flights,they are pretty good.
Why not do 10-11 nights to try to get your holiday within your budget.

Ive just thought of another one, have a look at the swan pub,its not a noisy place,2 bed apt-£240 for seven nights,£20 per night for extra days, you could do 10 nights for £300. ;D

Marje, have a look at the apartment at the Swan fidimax mentions. It's very close to the centre of Kalkan and it's probably one of the cheapest - if not THE cheapest apartments to let. A website like Holiday Lettings will let you name your budget and area of Kalkan and it will then match your criteria.
Turkeyfan is right though, most apartment owners are prepared for a bit of bartering on the price.
Also look at somewhere like the Sevgi Hotel which is close to town and very cheap (not sure if its in your budget) and breakfast is included. Good luck  :)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

I agree with Kalkan4Eva, try a bit of bartering with the owners, we've always been lucky to get really good deals in the past, especially when for some reason we've booked right at the beginning of the year or very last minute, although the trouble is booking last minute of course you're getting a far more limited choice. As my cheeky Hubby who loves bartering say's if you don't ask you don't get and they can only say no. As you can imagine he's absolutely cut out for shopping in Turkey Lol!

Sorry - don't agree about the bartering at all! I think if someone has set a fair price then that should be it unless they offer a discount. We do not like it at all when people do this to us and have found Kalkan is so popular that there is no need whatsoever to discount in the height of the season. Don't think the premium holiday companies do it, so why should private owners?

On a more positive note, how about the Hotel Dionysia, friendly, scupiously clean and the most welcoming small hotel I know in Kalkan. I love to stay there when travelling alone in the summer and have guests in my own place!

Hi

Take a look at the Korsan Appartments, very close to the village just a short way up the Kalamar road. You would be able to rent one of these well within your budget from an owner direct. I have been trying to send you a PM but it dosent seem to work (again) I will keep trying.

Thanks so much for all this info. it's fantastic, especially knowing what's central.

That's the problem with renting a place privately, it could be a slightly contentious issue with some people being open to offers to get a booking and some not.  I wouldn't even think to make an offer on a property listed on ownersdirect or such like, unless someone contacted me direct.

Anyway, thanks again everyone, by hook or by crook I shall manage something!  The reason I didn't want to book a week is because travelling from Scotland I thought the journey quite long for us, I will have to have a look at all options before I book anything.

Marje  ;)

Dear All,

I've booked up at the Samira Garden Hotel for a fortnight - arriving on 3rd July, via Travel Republic.  Really can't wait!

Thanks everyone for their help and suggestions.

What a good choice.  The Samira Garden will be ideal for you and your daughter - great staff, lovely pool and in a perfect position for town.  Enjoy your breakfasts on the roof terrace taking in that fantastic view!

Hi,

Thanks Martyn and Reygirl, I'm SO excited that I found this website and found out about Kalkan, it really sounds like my kind of place, a foodie paradise in a picturesque location and the people sound amazing.  I already want to move there and haven't even been yet.

Roll on July! x
