beck home!
« on: October 25, 2009, 11:21:38 AM »
well like many others this is a virgin report to kalkan!
firstly i'm a travel agent and have travelled fairly well over 20 years but yes this is the best place in those 20 years in the shorthual med market!!!!!
spain,portugal,canaries even greece YOUR HISTORY!!

ok i did a tailormade two centre 8 nights kalkan and 2 nights istanbul
stayed at the kelebek hotel (see tripadvisor for report on that) as what i want to talk about is kalkan!!

booked a private transfer from enes travel..great! waiting for us at 22.00 on friday 9th october at dalaman, by midnight already got a beer at hotel!
couldn't sleep that night, just wanted the sun to come up so i could go and see it for real!!

days 1-4 just chilling, sleeping, reading and eating the best fresh fish ever!
spent a good few hours a day at fenner cafe on harbour front on the comfortable sofa style seating drinking cold effes! heaven!!

food and eating out! everywhere we ate i would give 10/10 but special mention to the following

salt and pepper: amazing sea bass with garlic, mushrooms etc great service
ramis : again great fish great service
baharat: again fish great, nice view, great service
aubergine: only did breakfast and lunch but wow! all great! good people watching view at night from the fantastic sofa's in the bar
kaptan: only for lunch but nice view and great owners!

drinks in the evening's : people watching etc, aubergine, trio etc by harbour but our favourite spot was yani's.brilliant again nice sofa's for a cuddle with the significant other with cocktails!

one to avoid : doysums: poor service, felt riped off "special of the day" was sea bream at 14 turksih lira on the board was charged 16! also i asked to substitue a part of the main which they did and charged me for it!!  even though it was a substitute, they would not back down either! this really let kalkan down..

days 4-6 hired a car and went to myra which was amazing, as was tlos and saklikent gorge all highly recommended

last two days chilling again!
now i do not normally go back anywhere twice but kalkan has captured by my wife and i's heart so we will be back and the sooner the better! already got good flight price for next october at £155 !
one thing i would differently is we normally go everywhere self catering but did b/b this time, we found this restrictive both in terms of not being allowed to have drinks i.e coffee, soft drinks in our room and because of that it seemed to cost us a lot more as my wife can drink coffee for england and it does mount up if you are constantly going into bars cafes etc just for a soft drink or coffee etc! so next year will be an apartment or villa!

Great report!  Another one has the Kalkan bug - once bitten, never cured!  It is a magical place, isn't it?  We've just booked for our third year in a row, for our 4th and 5th visits, as we've decided once a year in Kalkan isn't enough
