Mussakkaa Restaurant
« on: October 20, 2009, 03:51:05 PM »
Having waited 3 days to get a booking at this restaurant last week I was looking forward to a good meal as recommended by others on this site. What a disappointment, mediocre food and sloppy service and tables so close you can almost share the food on the next table. (yes I know the place is small)
In my opinion this restaurant has been very over hyped and I for one will not be returning.
I did not find out what the nice suprise was at the end of the evening only the bad one which was the bill.

Sorry to hear your experience wasn't good. We have been there a few times this year and the food and atmosphere has been great.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

Hi Engineer - ditto for us!  We were there 2 weeks ago and were also v disappointed.  We also booked 3 days in advance, then when we turned up our booking had vanished!  They managed to fit us in after a bit of toing and fro-ing.  The food I found OK- not brilliant, but OK.  However, the service was both slow yet manic at the same time - a bit shambolic compared to the very high standards Kalkan sets!  Perhaps we were there on the same night as you and caught them on an off day  ???

We did get the "surprise" which was a nice touch (PM me if you want to know what it is).

We also found the food ok but nothing special -fish a touch overcooked, mousaka quite nice but not a patch on the Olive garden (or even Ali Baba's).

We didn't post at the time as given the number of rave reviews, we assumed it was just a one off.

Our last night was spent at Mussaka and we felt it was the best meal of our stay, I had their special steak with a fig and mustard sauce and thought it wonderful.

Have to say we ate there earlier this year and had a great night. Also had a lovely meal there a week or so ago. We also needed to book way in advance, but that wasn't a problem and our meal was really lovely, the service was great and delightful company on the next table. We received another surprise, followed by the surprise of the bill which was extremely reasonable for what we ate and drank (and compared to some other restaurants). We will definitely return next year, all being well.
I'm sorry some posters didn't enjoy it :(
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)
