HSBC card
« on: August 13, 2009, 03:30:07 PM »
Does anybody or has anybody used their HSBC solo/switch card in the ATM's in Kalkan and how much this costs per transaction if anything?

I know people on here seem to be raving about the nationwide account but I don't think we'll have time to set that up to be honest.

Sorry, can't tell you about HSBC but Natwest have just charged us £2.50 PER transaction.
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

I used my HSBC maestro card because i had ran out of money on my Nationwide account and i cant remember it being very high, but then again i only made one transaction on it at the ATM.  Having said that, the Nat West charge quoted above, does seem to be the norm for most cards.

Remember that in addition to the charge you see on the statement with most cards you also pay 2.75% currency conversion fee - so about 5% in all.

So best to get a Nationwide flex card or take a pile of cash (but find somewhere to hide it well).

We have a First Direct visa/debit (part of HSBC Group) that we have always used to withdraw cash from ATM'S in Turkey. When we were in Kalkan last month we would withdraw 750 TL per transaction (about £300) and have been charged a cash machine fee of £4 odd each time. The rate varied with each transaction and I've been informed by First Direct that the exchange rate charged was their own on the day NOT the bank we used to withdraw from.
Hope that helps :)
