Here`s one for you all to ponder....

Who is one of your favourite characters in Kalkan and why?

Me personally it has to be Guni (head barman) at the Samira in town because of all kinds of reasons really but mainly for having an abundance of energy & enthusiasm, and also each time we arrive back in Kalkan he welcomes us with open arms. There are lots of people i could mention but Guni is one of my favourites.

Know exactly what you are saying Jon. Get your thinking cap on. There are so many wonderful characters in Kalkan. Not asking for your favourite one but one of your favourites. I`m sure we can all think of many.

Suleyman wins the award for the biggest "double take" of the fortnight. Sat at the Moonlight, soaking up the ambience and were suddenly aware of someone waving at us. It took a while but suddenly we realised that the newly coiffed hair and moustache belonged to Suleyman. He''s gone jet black - it''s taken 20 years off him.

I agree about Guni at the Samira. Great character.

A couple of years ago there was also a little stocky guy behind the bar there as well - can''t remember his real name but everyone called him "Oddjob" for obvious reasons (for anyone old enough to remember Goldfinger)

I like Hallil...the man with the Bandana and beard that walks about,from the taylors just before merkez...lovely man ,nice gentle nature and fun,also Yardin with the pony tail from the jewellers..i like him because he has most of my money!!

Adem from Bezigan Kitchen, most of the time he is dressed in traditional Ottoman clothes & is very proud of his Ottoman history & of being an original Kalkan local.

Hi Guy''s, our favourite is also YARDAN from the diamante jewellers, mainly because he supplies her in doors with copious amounts of cheap jewellery and not least gets a bottle of RAKI in for us each time we arrive

not that this has any influence on me going in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tekin who owns Cinar is very friendly and hospitable. Pity his cafe bar isn''t doing too well. Is Yardan the guy with the labrador retriever bitch, Bella? If so, we talked to him a lot on the last visit and exchanged photos of our respective pooches.

But Ihan from Fidanka really made our holiday special. Funny as you like, a grafter and very kind hearted.

Remember "oddjob" he was so funny and we used to call him "tinyman"...He also used to dress up in his Father Christmas outfit when it was Turkish night...Apparently he went working in Fethiye

I''m with you Toffeelad - Guni is my one of my favourite characters in Kalkan, the atmosphere at the Samira bar is great and his choice of music absolutely fantastic.

In fact all of the staff at the Samira are friendly and helpful. Ergan on reception is always willing to help and very skilled at table tennis to boot.

Arriving in Kalkan and at the Samira for the fourth year running on 15 August - can''t wait!!!!!!

The Samira was where we spent our first two holidays in Kalkan. Even though we now have our own apartments, so don''t stay there any more, we still pop in there at least once a year (normally we try and catch the Turkish night - it''s always the same but it''s still fun, thanks to Guni and the guys). We are always made very welcome... it''s like visiting old friends. Lovely warm atmosphere at the bar.
