How busy is Kalkan in August?
« on: June 12, 2009, 07:07:05 PM »
Hello all,
Just back from another great holiday in Kalkan. Arrived back at 8pm Monday night and by 10pm was already surfing the net looking at flight prices for a return! The good thing about late May/early June is that you can stroll into town and pick the restaurant you wish to eat at without too much hassle. Was thinking of returning the last week of the school hols at the end of August. How busy is it then compared to the end of May?

Because of the sort of place Kalkan is, the school holidays don''t actually have as much of an effect as some other places. August is busier than May, but there is still plenty of capacity in restaurants etc.

The thing that puts some people off August is the heat - it can get VERY hot! Not a problem for me, but it is for some!

I have to disagree to some extent Martin.

There are loads of people who can only visit Kalkan during the school hols - even if they don''t have kids. The restaurants and beach clubs are definately a lot busier than outside  of the summer holidays.   In fact, at times,  we have been unable to get a table in some of the more popular restaurants without a reservation and last year when we arrived at Kalamar beach club after about 11.00am there were no sunbeds left.

We do have kids, so it''s August for us, and the same as the rest of the year, Kalkan is just simply lovely - but if there is a special restaurant that you want to visit on a particular night, then remember to make an advance booking.  :D :D
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

Just as March is desolate, cold and wet , and difficult to keep warm most of the time, August is the opposite, busy, extremely hot (temperatures are often in the 40s) and it''s difficult to keep cool, even at night, it really is quite relentless and this goes for late July and September as well

Hi Belinda you are dead right - unless you like walking [ probably in the rain] March is not the ideal time to come.
You would probably end up huddled round the fire in the Kaya or the BBQ trying to get warm but then you would have to watch the football or [if you are well off] you could sit round the fire in the Aubergine or the Sofra as there really isn''t much else available
Or you could sit in the Swan with Misty ;D

We have been in August, and the heat was very intense - I did like it, but prefer the slightly cooler months of June or September. We didn''t have a problem eating in our favourite restaurants because we are late eaters, sometimes 9 or 10 pm before we . Turkeyfan, I''m assuming if you have kids, then you prefer to eat earlier which is why you might have had a problem - could be wrong though?
The other thing about August was there seem to be more power cuts than at any other time of year we''ve been - again we might have just been unlucky. The most concerning thing for me in August was the inability of my hair to hold any style  ;D ;D. Gave up in the end ;)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)
