Ilban Restaurant
« on: May 27, 2009, 09:08:24 AM »
Just wanted to tell ever one about the ilban. just up from the Kaya, magic bar & across from the Swan pub.Its run by Jane & Nejoe, nice people. They do a brill English breakfast on the cafe terrance that looks all over KalKan. There evening meals are good & reasonable too. Jane does home made cakes as well that are really scrumptious.

Regards,

Mank & Frandy

We had a lovely meal (dinner) , but its very very expensive for the location.
The prices are what you would expect to pay at the front line harbour restaurants, but it does not have the views. If they reduced their prices we would definately return but until then its too expensive. Also we met some people on the beach who had eaten coffee and cake. Again they said how nice it was but very expensive and wouldnt return because of the prices.

I go to Ilban for my coffee fix. The cakes are great and the cappuccino comes in huge cups. The price is fine when you consider that you get 4 times the amount of coffee as elsewhere and the cakes are just the best in Kalkan. The prices for food in Kalkan have changed gradually over the last few years, most restaurants charge very similar prices( a few lira difference). The times when the harbour were the most expensive and the prices got cheaper as you climbed up the hill have all but disappeared. The most important thing to me is still the quality of the food. If you can get both then its a bonus.

think ilban is a great restaurant. lovely turkish menu and service great. also good choice of other dishes as well.  do not think it is expensive at all. have been in kalkan for 6 weeks now and do not eat out every night but ilban is on my favourite list.

My favourite for coffee and cake is Cafe del Mar.  It''s a bit special compared to the rest..

Had an excellent meal at Ilban last night (and, believe me, we are picky when it comes to restaurants). Jane and Neco, whom we have known for many years, are obviously putting a lot of thought and effort into providing quality food.
All other customers seemed pleased too.
The only negative point - and nothing to do with the restaurant itself - was the appalling loud, live, music from the new Park Kalkan place opposite. The band wasn't even good! Felt very sorry for anyone who has a property anywhere near there. What a shame to ruin Kalkan with this sort of "entertainment". Hope the belediye reduce the number of nights a week (currently 3, we're told) that this noise pollution is permitted.

We ate at Ilban last week and found it very reasonable compared to some restaurants. Paid 80TL for 2 of us and had unlimited coffee after dinner which we thought was a nice touch. Thought the food was excellent and the service very good.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.
