Live music at The Nur Hotel
« on: May 06, 2009, 09:55:19 PM »
Hi all, Chris and myself are coming to Kalkan on the 23rd for just one week and so would like to know what nights The Nur Hotel has live music, the start and finish times so we can plan dinner, and type of music etc. etc..        Maybe see some of you there, hope so.   Cheers, Allan.   8)

Last week it was definitely Thursday and Saturday - I think it started around 10 pm.

Yes, a bunch of us were there last night and it was a really good evening.  Not sure the name of the band but they were really good.

Sounds good.  Will have to check it out when we''re over next week.

What type of music were they playing?
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

When we were there earlier in the month I was pleased that we couldn''t hear the music from our apartment, as I thought the noise would carry. The sound proofing seems to be effective. We intended to call in one evening but never made it.

Just back from Kalkan this week and can report the following re live music at the Nur:

Thursdays: Mainly blues with Baris on drums, an English guy called Eric on bass and another English guy called Gerard on guitar & voicals. They do lots of well known covers including Cream, Free, T-Bone Walker, Clapton etc.  Gerard very kindly let me get up and do a few numbers with them, which was fun. Another guy got up and played drums for a couple of numbers too. All very laid back and enjoyable... I popped back to the apartment to get something during the evening and there was no noise spill at all, so full marks to the sound proofing!

(I enjoyed playing with Baris and Eric so much that they invited me to their gig in Kas on the Friday night and I did a couple of numbers there too)!

Saturdays: another band, this time mainly locals, with Baris on drums again, an acoustic guitarist and a female percussionist/singer doing  latin, jazz, pop & Turkish dance stuff. . . I got up and did a couple of acoustic numbers with them too! The first Saturday they were augmented by a bass player and a female flautist as well.... very talented musicians, and very varied and enjoyable music and atmosphere. Notably, some of the local youngsters started coming in after about midnight, when the music took on a more Turkish theme and a great time was had by all... much hand clapping (and some feeble attempts by the Brits to join in the Turkish dancing ;))

All in all, thumbs up to Baris for getting this going and for doing it in such a thoughful and tasteful way.  I understand that he is going to try and get something going on Tuesdays as well.

All live music lovers should give it a try.

Thanks for the update Martyn, we''ll be out there Monday and are looking forward to it. The place is looking good isn''t it? We enjoyed ourselves at Easter and want some more.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

Chris and I spent a couple of great nights at The Nur Live Music Bar last week. Baris is such a lovely guy, (well all drummers are) and so very enthusiastic about music. He lets anyone who can play an instrument sit in with the band for a few numbers, which I did on both nights!   In fact on the Thursday 4 of us from the audience got up together on drums, guitar, bass guitar and saxophone, and with the keyboard player from the band did 3 numbers. I stayed on for another number with the sax player and the rest of the house band, ''Hoochie Coochie Man'', one of my favourite Blues Numbers.
There is a brilliant atmosphere in the place, and room for dancing as well. Don''t miss it!

                                           Cheers, Allan.  8)

Glad you enjoyed it, Alan. We will have to get together for a jam if we are both over there at the same time. Whenever that may be!

Where is the Nur Hotel?  It sounds like a good night.  Do they serve food at the same time or is it just drinks and music?

Do we need to book a table at the hotel for the music?

The music is played in the bar which has 3 or 4 small drinks tables with bar stools, with more stools at the small bar. There are a couple of sofas as well. Its not a big place by any means, just the right size to be well connected with the music, so I wouldn''t have thought anyone tries to reserve tables as such. If you get there about 9.30pm you should probably find a table or some seats free. It has a great vibe!

                                                Cheers, Allan.  8)
