Food!!!
« on: March 18, 2009, 10:05:33 AM »
Hello

Eating out, and food in general is a large part of our holiday. We are also keen to try traditional Turkish food.
I know that Kalkan is famous for great food - but where to start?!!!

Can anyone help me recommending their favourite Turkish dish and where is the best place to eat it?
Any help gratefully received.  Thanks  :)

You are going to get a lot of replies to this post. My favourite Turkish dish is Lachmacun, small round flatbread with spicy lambs mince on top. Yum :D
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

This thread is making me very hungry!!

Lamb or chicken shish at the Lachmacun restaurant which I can''t remember the name of, they do great lachmacun, their grills are delicious & so are their salads, all food is traditional Turkish.

Also recommend, for good simple Turkish home cooking try Bezigan kitchen which is on the roundabout as you come into town.

Lamb Kofte in any of the restaurants.

Misty - what is Asian stir fry, is that Turkish??

My favourites are numerous so here is just a taster! ::)

Favourite starters:
Boreks [filo patry twists filled with cheese or sometimes prawns, yum!] most restaurants serve these.
Imam...oh can''t spell it, "the fainting Priest" [wonderful aubergine dish] again widely available.

Mains:
The wonderful liver casserole served on a hot plate [as described previously] in Deli-Tomato
Kofte kebaps - from Iso''s restaurant
Great Fish served simply- widely available.

Pudding:
Never can find the room, although I am told that Sofra does amazing choc fudge cake [I know, not Turkish but still fabulous by all accounts]

mmm this is making me a wee bit hungry! Try the cheese borek for starters, the fish is amazing in Kalkan as are the slow cook lamb dishes. In fact I dont think we have had a bad meal in kalkan yet and we have been coming for ten years.  Hugely recommend
Rendevous: Beautiful roof top location with unbeatable service and reasonable prices, delicious steaks.
Extinct: Great traditional Pides, good selection of complementary starters.
Doy Doy: Really nice Beef dishes and attentive service.
Trio: Beautiful Lamb slow cook and harbour location
Kaya: Fantastic seabass dish and lovely owner.
Tomatoe: reasonably priced and good selection of dishes

Hope this helps
