Prices in Kalkan...
« on: July 29, 2009, 03:49:30 PM »
Hi everyone!

I am going to Kalkan in about 3 weeks time and was just wondering how the prices in restaurants, bar, shops etc. compare to the rest of Turkey/UK. I was told by somone who has been to Kalkan before that the restaurants and alcohol especially is quite expensive? Is this true?  ???

Thanks,

K

It does not have to be expensive - We spent anything from £30 to £80 on evening meals plus drinks. Thats starter, main course and a bottle of wine plus a few extra drinks after.

If you go to the more expensive restaurants like Trio, Aubergine on the harbour front, you will pay that bit extra but the food is lovely.

After having gone to a number of these more expensive restaurants which were fab, we also went to cheaper local restaurants and enjoyed the food just as much (sometimes even better!)

All restaurants have large menus outside so dont be shy to go up and check out the prices and food - you can always walk off  :D  Everyone is friendly and you dont feel pressured to go in to a restaurant just because you read their menu.

food varies as Rykarenee says ,booze is quite cheap,Efes (beer) is variable with some selling it for 3TL up to 4.5TL large bottle....a large draught beer is widely sold at about 5 TL...If you are drinking shorts with a mixer the local spirits are fine and cheaper option(exports expensive by comparison)..wine has quite a big mark up in restaurants but is reasonable in the supermarkets .
I hope you enjoy your trip ;)

I managed to bring home a menu from the Olive Garden  :) in June (they gave it to me). Working on £8=20 NTL starters average 9ntl, salads 8.5-16ntl, mains 25ntl. Angora white/red wine 22ntl bottle Efes 5ntl. I had a 3 course meal plus 1/2 bottle red for £25. The food was very good and I would have expected to pay £45 in England. Hope this is helpful :)

As well as the grub being cheaper than it is in the UK, the quality is superior too, more often than not.  And of course the setting is so much more fabulous too!  :)
