Turkish Lira
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:00:20 AM »
As you know the unit of currency is the Turkish lira.
New Turkish lira recently started to be used in conjunction with the Turkish lira.
By the end of 2009 the two funds will be used.
Since 2010 the Turkish Lira will be used only.
New edition of the TL looks like Euro.
Bank notes are 5 lira, 10 lira, 20 lira, 50 lira, 100 lira
and coins are 5 kurush, 10 kurush, 25 kurush, 50 kurush and 1 lira

 money makes money...

Thanks for that Ozgur. I found this info on this subject:-

"Future Turkish Lira
As of January 1st 2009, the prefix ‘New’ used in the New Turkish Lira and New Kuruş will again be removed and new banknotes, without the prefix ‘New’, will be put into circulation together with the current ones. The New Turkish Lira banknotes will be withdrawn from circulation as of January 1st 2010.

Nevertheless, the New Turkish Lira banknotes will be redeemed for a period of ten years starting from January 1st 2010 till the expiration of working hours on December 31st 2019 at the branches of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. The New Turkish Lira banknotes will be worthless as of January 1st 2020."

I take it there will be different notes in circulation for a while, so it''''s good to know and be aware of this.
Thanks
Joan
