Thomas Cook - Transfers
« on: January 07, 2009, 11:39:48 AM »
Thomas Cook are now selling transfers - paid £38.50 return Dalaman/Kalkan for my next trip out in February.  Fantastic price for single traveller who usually stumps up £100 each trip (& there are a few each year!!)  Big difference & also key when making decisions on total cost of journey & which airticket to buy.

I''ll report back on performance/service.

Will the transfer go as soon as you land ? What if only a few people are going on the transfer? Will it wait for further flights to land to fill it up? where does your transfer pick up on the return ,is it door to door or do they pick up from a specific point? i know 100 smackers is a lot of money, but when you have been travelling all day and you just want to get there... to an from the front door! it is a necessary evil.... i look forward to your update..i''''m all for saving a few bob especially at the moment !!
People Of Britain.. When your missus asks "Does my bum look big in this? Never say "Dunno your blocking the light."... just sayin ????

 ta ta for now

I booked my transfer through Thomas Cook in November and it was fantasic value for a single traveller.  I was the only person on the flight going to Kalkan so I had to wait until the 3 staff on duty had sorted out everyone else''s transfer and then travelled with them by private car.  I probably had to wait about 30 minutes.  The staff got out at Fethiye and then the driver took me all the way to Kalkan just as if it were a private taxi.  On the way back I was picked up by car and transferred to a bus in Fethiye which then went round and picked up others before going to the airport.  The service was very courteous and reliable.  I would certainly use them again.

That''s really interesting about Thomas Cook transfers. Do you book the flights through www.thomascook.com? I had a quick look on their website just now but couldn''t see where you''d actually book the transfers. If you could point me in the right direction I''d be very grateful! Many thanks

Patarapat:  It was an option as I proceeded through the online booking at the point where you choose additonal luggage/meals/insurance etd.

Reygirl:  Thanks for your response, hope my trip is as easy !!

The option to request a transfer came up after completing the flight booking when I did mine as well.  However, the company that you actually deal with is Transfers4U (which are part of the Thomas Cook group) so you can book directly through their website for the same price and receive exactly the same service from their local agent.

Is it possible to book transfers when journey starts from Kalkan rather than UK?  I tried to do this on the transfers4u site and it wouldn''t accept.

Think I''ll stick with Enes, thanks for the info anyway, Reygirl  :)
I realise single travellers get a raw deal and it makes the transfers hugely expensive when there''s only one and TC transfers may well offer great value for money, but the thought of waiting round for half an hour, stopping in Fethiye (was it the centre?) on the way to Kalkan is not worth the money we''d save either as a couple or a family. Your return journey sounds like my worst nightmare....you must have left Kalkan about 3 hours or more before you got to the airport?
I don''t think of the transfers as an additional expense, I just add it to the cost of flights and accomodation and transfer to Manchester Airport and THAT total is the true cost of my holiday, before spends  It comes into the equation right at the start when we''re budgeting - it''s a neccessary evil. But like BL, we want to just get straight there...Enes was £65 last year, I think so the difference on TC (with all the extra stops etc..) is only the price of a couple of bottles of water in Dalaman (and Enes supply them free)
No contest  ;D
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

The stop in Fethiye on the way to Kalkan was literally to drop off a member of staff on his way home from being on airport duty. My plane landed at 5 am and I was in Kalkan for 7.15.  As you say Kalkan4eva, there''s no saving at all for a couple or family but having recently paid £140 for a taxi transfer from Antalya and back again, the £37 almost-private-taxi deal that I got in November feels like a real bargain to me!

Thats fine if it''s the norm...but if they charge that and only take 1 person each time it won''t make economic sense and won''t last..be interesting to hear others experiences

Hiya K4E,was the £65 for private transfer just for your self,or each, and was it the price for a return transfer,I paid £100 for a return transfer last may,and this year four of us will be travelling and I think the transfer will be around £130 for four return.

Hi Neil - for 4 people - we quote guests £100 return - over 4 people and it is £140 return coz that is a mini-bus job - but we have a full villa of 10 - then that is good value for them!   ;D

Cheers!

Hi Felicity, can I ask who you use to get the £100 for four people, thats a lot better than I have seen for four, mainly £65 each way.

Hi Neil - it is Hasan (!) who does all transfers for our guests - £100 for up to 4 people (in his yellow taxi doblo) and £140 for more than 4 - in his mini bus...  If you want me to give you his contact details - send me a PM!

Cheers!

As promised in my original posting I am now reporting on my experience.

I booked my transfer via Thomas Cook at the same time as booking my ticket (& yes I always consider this as part of my overall travel cost).  Thomas Cook are using Yesil Dalyan as their ground agents operating this service.

The cost for me (single traveller) was £38.50 return.

On arrival I was met outside Dalaman as usual by a chap with a name board, escorted to a minibus which I shared with a couple + 2 x single travellers.  We had two stops - Fethiye & Calis Beach then onto Kalkan.

You are asked to confirm your departure 2days before & you are then advised on time of collection.  This I did & was collected on time by car.  We journeyed onto Calis Beach to pick up one more passenger then onto Dalaman.

Each journey took approx 30mins longer than the usual door to door private transfer.

As a single traveller who makes 3 sometimes 4 visits per year the savings are obvious.

I will certainly be using this transfer service for my next visit.

Hi Szimmer - I''m pleased you had a positive experience, as I did when I used this service in November.  It''s a huge help to single travellers.  Maybe see you on the bus one day!

I am thinking about booking a transfer with Tranfers4U, does anyone know if they take you to your villa? it looks like they will only drop you at a known hotel
