EK Forum quieter than Kalkan itself!
« on: November 11, 2008, 04:45:34 PM »
Where is everyone?  I know many businesses in the village have already shut down, but does this mean that this forum will be all but silent until next April?  It''s been almost all X Factor, aging rockers and Desert Island discs for the last week!

You are right but I think it is just the time of year.
However, please feel free to start some new threads or revive some of the old ones.
The limes should be ripening nicely now!!

A tasty Lancashire delicacy, especially the ones from Bury.
Can recommend a touch of mustard to complement the flavour. ;)

Hi
Without wishing to cause offense, and only commenting on what I have been told firsthand... some people are not posting as they get fed up with their posts being deleted, or worse still BANNED  :o
Please don''''t forget one of our good friends is serving their time at the moment...

Re Black pudding.  I think as a child when I knew what it was made out of it was a case of     yeuch!!! not going within 6 feet of that.  But with maturity - quiet Joan - It'' something I really enjoy, especially with an old English fry-up breakfast!  Excellent!  Bill

I for one don''t post much anymore because the forum has changed so much. It, to me doesn''t seem as friendly as it used to be. But it''s just my opinion. There are too many personal posts for my liking, so I log in, read the good info, laugh at the banter and get on with my life.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

Brooksie,
It is because of a small and distinctly unfriendly few that many of our loyal and friendly members no longer post or take an active role.
By not posting, you are letting them "win".
Keep posting and help make the forum the friendly informative site again.
Remember, you joined the forum within days of it starting and helped to make it a great site.
Thank you
Joan

Having spent over 5 weeks in Kalkan over the summer (when I can pretend to be a ''local''!) and a recent week for October half term, I still regularly ''tune in'' to this website because it gives me the Kalkan ''fix'' when I''m back at work and missing Turkey desperately. But I do understand why some folks are reluctant to post, having followed some of the recent threads. Suffice to say that Kalkan is as beautiful as ever and, although I''ve been kept awake by the odd barking dog, I''ll be going back! The village has in effect ''shut down'' for winter, but lots of restaurants will be ticking over with a skeleton staff and there is plenty going on. We tend to travel farther afield at this time of year and had a lovely couple of days in off-peak Antalya last week (clothes shopping and cinema...very un-Kalkan!) But know the the ole place will come back to life for New Year...see you there!  :)

i thought some time ago about not bothering to post ,but as Joan says by doing so the sour people win...the internet is a great thing, but unforunateley it lets lifes little people become something they possibly are not in real life ...when ever i''m in Kalkan i seem to find happy nice people ..where do these unpleasant people go to?or is it easier to be spiteful in secret?
keep posting or no one will be about on here in winter except us diehards ;)!! :D

Im still very much here and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who is keeping EK alive over winter. I have to admit I have been spending a little bit too much time wedding planning and getting all the exclusive deals sorted for the upcoming season  :D

I was thinking of putting a daily trivia quiz or similar on EK to keep our brains ticking over whilst we wait for Kalkan to spring back into life.

So again may I take this opportunity to say thank you to all the members of EnjoyKalkan, the Helpers, the Safety team and everyone else that keeps this site going.

Jon  :D

Whilst I still log on to see the latest posts I do feel that when the topics include X Factor, Strictly, Desert Island discs, thought for the day etc etc then I go no further.  Should I wish to read about these topics I could do so elsewhere.  There is also a significant amount of personal banter which is fine but means nothing to a significant number of members.

I do not believe that a few rogue members would stop people posting if they have something worthwhile to either ask or say - it would not stop me but sometimes as posts develop I do think "why bother".

I am genuinly interested in Kalkan but I find that these days many of the posts have no Kalkan element to them at all.  Maybe that is why is gone a little quiet.

i think EK has a good balance of everything needed..yes there is banter, yes there is a significant amount of topics posted under "general discussion " such as this one..but you can also find out just about anything you wish...i have met several members from  on here and count them as friends now.
Like it or not, it has gone quiet because the holiday season is over..the majority are thinking of other things such as how to pay bills ,work, christmas etc...last year was the same ..many of us came upon EK after trip advisor which i found unpleasant and included many surly posters and lacked the personal touch and indeed in general a friendly element....i wouldn''t like EK to go that way..now if a post turns ugly i don''t join it, cut off the fuel and the flames die!!I know people who have left because of it...   If things are quiet i don''t mind if someone wants to ask about black puddings or spotted dick!!
roll on next year ,i shall probably be picking some of your brains before then for cheap flights etc etc ..till then if anyone wants a chat i will still be here ....through winter!! ;) :D
