The Blue Lagoon
« on: October 01, 2008, 04:11:36 PM »
Hi all,

My boyfriend and I went on an Adda Tours excursion in May to Fethiye market, which included a short stop at the Blue Lagoon, Olu Deniz.  Unfortunately we only had an hour there, but when we return to Kalkan in 2 weeks we would like to go for longer.  Could anyone tell us the easiest and cheapest way to have several hours there?  Is there a dolmus that goes there, or should we hire a car?

Many thanks,
Lauren

car hire would be easier....otherwise it''s dolmus /coach to Fethiye and change to another dolmus for Olu
when we have been we''ve found it crowded and not as nice as it was many years ago( litter)..much prefer Patara beach..but still it''s a matter of choice...look out for the paragliders in tandem off the hills behind the lagoon ;)

Car hire is definitely the best option, Olu Deniz is easy to get to.

Thanks very much for the tips!  I have heard a lot of people say Patara is nice, so will definitely pay it a visit  :)

Yes - once you visit Patara - you will wonder why you ever liked the Blue lagoon - IMHO - the best part of the blue lagoon is the view from the sky when parascending - which is where all the photos of it are taken - it looks stunning - but on the ground is very different - shingly (not sandy) dirty, crowded and sometimes smelly - give me Patara any day...(and its closer!!)

Cheers!

If you bear right at the lagoon entrance (not going through the entrance) and keep walking along, there are several small beaches along there.  They are sandy, slope gently into the sea and the sea is usually warm in June and September.  We find it much safer to swim there than at Patara.  There are cafes at the beaches and the view is lovely.  It is not smelly.

My OH and I like swimming on those beaches around the Blue Lagoon.
We feel a lot safer there as you don''t get those strong currents that you get at Patara
and Patara is usually very windy.

I too love the lagoon beaches never found them smelly even in high season, and I think the scenary is second to none.
