« on: September 16, 2008, 03:06:35 PM »
Does anyone know where or if there is a cobblers or shoe repair shop in Kalkan or Kas?
Thanks
Joan

Thanks, but I do not know where you are describing - Kalkan or Kas, or where in these places. Can you clarify and expand, please?
Cheers
Joan

Surely Joan this is an item that should be in the new ''residents and dog owners'' section.

Presumably holiday makers and prospective villa renters. thinking about  holidaying in kalkan won''t be thinking about getting there shoes mended!!
Not those who come to Kalkan.

I''ve had shoes mended on holiday before now (not in Kalkan admittedly) but have had a sandal buckle stitched back on.

Whilst accepting your post might have been somewhat tongue in cheek Newballs, I can concur that a cobbler is very important whilst on holiday as borne out by the following incident that happened to me back in 2000 on my first visit to Kalkan.

I had purchased a very expensive pair of sandals and was very pleased with myself and looking the the dogs thingy''s.  As I strolled down to town I suddenly realised that these expensive shoes had shiny leather soles, this was when my feet went from under me on the shiny concrete hill.  So I then slipped, and fell all the way down, feeling a proper prat all the way down to the harbour hanging on to my wife for grim death.

The moral of the story is always find out where the local cobbler is, as you never know when you will need one to fit rubber soles to your new leather ones!

Newballs,
I posted this question in the Owners Lounge but it has been moved here, presumably as someone thought it was more appropriate.
As long as I know where to find the place I am happy. However, I still do not know where it is. I don''t know where "the small market stand with the fish stall on your left and the toilets behind you and it is in the far right corner" is?
Is Hoca refering to a stall on the Thursday Market?

Joan - I think Hoca is referring to the small market behind the old taxi rank.  If you come down the steps with the fish shop on your left, the fruit and veg shops are in front of you and the toilets to your right behind you - but I have obviously missed the cobblers - assuming that is where Hoca means...on the far right hand corner coz from my recollection that is where the turkish people play backgammon and the road leads down to the No Name bar...??!!   ??? ???

Thanks Felicity, I know now where he means.
To be honest I did not know that there were toilets there, and I do not have much reason to go down there. I must have a good look round next week to look at the fish and other stalls as I maybe inspired to cook whilst in Kalkan this time.
Cheers

Sorry
Go down the steps where you sign is for the no name bar off the main road on your right as you walk down, the fish stall will be on your left and the toilets on your right. There will be 2 veg stalls in front of you the cobblers is behind the one on the left you have to walk into the corner as you can''t see it from the square the people at the fish stall or the toilet minder will also tell you.
