ATMs in Kalkan v Travellers Cheques
« on: August 24, 2008, 09:23:21 AM »
Hi my husband and myself are travelling to Kalkan for the first time on Sept 5th, we normally use our Nationwide Flex-account card to withdraw money when in Turkey, but I am concerned about the number and reliability of the ATMs in Kalkan, I have read the forum on money but unfortunately it didn’t provide enough info, and I am thinking of taking travellers cheques instead. Any advice on this would be much appreciated. :)

Hi Tracy - personally I have never bothered with Travellers chqs in turkey....although I think if you take them you will be able to exchange them OK (have you done a search as I''m pretty sure this topic has been covered before??).  There are now 5 ATM''s in kalkan - so I think you need not worry about numbers and reliability - just 2 years ago - there was only 1 bank and 1 ATM and we never had problems then - so unless there are extended electricity outages - you will be fine!  I have only ever once found an ATM not working (when there was only 1!!)..  Personally I would just stick with your Nationwide card!

Enjoy your holiday!

Tracy, use your Flex-account.  I use mine all the time in Kalkan.  You will get the best exchange rate and it''''s so convenient.  I only ever take a little lira with me to get me started and then withdraw from the ATM whenever I need it.  Have a great holiday in Kalkan!

Hi Tracy,

Just back from 3 wonderful weeks in Kalkan and used Nationwide card at ATMs to withdraw turkish lira without any problems at all. Used mainly Deniz bank ATM but also used the IS one in both Kalkan and Kas.
