Water Shortage in Kalkan July 08
« on: July 19, 2008, 12:27:23 PM »
Hi, I have just had a call from our agent in Kalkan to say our guests are very unhappy as no
water at the villa, she assures me it''s not an isolated problem with our villa, but the whole of Kalkan. Has anyone else heard Kalkan is suffering with no water?

I read on here that there''s been a few water cuts in the past few weeks but not sure about a shortage.

Hi,
Babadag posted that they were experiencing problems with water cuts. It''s quite a common problem i''m afraid. We once went without water supply for 3 days. (Bit smelly!) I do hope your guests aren''t too annoyed and that they get their water supply back soon.

Just out of curiosity ...a question to those who let out their villas...when there is no water for a few days or long power cuts and guests complain are they offered any sort of refund?

Water cuts in kalkan are a common occurance (we once did 3 weeks a very long time ago!). every house should have a water tank so that when the water cuts there is an emergency back up supply. as long as precautions are used this tank - or tanks in larger houses - should last 3 days or so.
Visitors to kalkan should always be aware that the water can be cut at any moment, as can the electric. Your holiday villa may be advertised as 5* but the electric and water supply have always been anything but reliable.

Hi  Kevincat. Water & Electric situation is mentioned in our villa manual which is emailed to guests prior to their holiday.  We have  a huge reserve tank and battery operated lighting which up until now have been sufficient for any outages.  This week I have sent 2 water tankers from Ismelar plus wine & beer.  I  hope the guests understand I have done as much as possible. I''ll have to wait and see if they push for compensation.  In 3 years of renting I haven''t had to  compensate anyone.

Just back from Kalkan - the break in water service on 16/17 Juky was due to pipe being cut at the new roundabout - this was a planned outage & our agent warned us before hand.

On 18/19 there was a problem at saklikent which was unplanned.

we have a 250litre tank which is Ok for 2/3 people for 1 day - anything more would need a 1 ton tank

My friend and I rented a villa last July and we had problems with the pool being out of action for several days and had no water in the house from first thing in the morning till late evening.  Someone came to see to the pool, turned the water off and then disappeared for the rest of the day. Our biggest disappointment was not being able to use the pool for several days when we were only there for a week.  We also discovered on our return home that we should have been left a welcome pack that the agent failed to arrange but wee weren''t offered any compensation for either event.

Our apartment block has a very large underground water tank which cuts in if there is a water cut. It lasts for about three days normal usage. Electric solar heating is the main source of power but there is also a generator that can be used as a back up if mains electric fails. Overall we don''t have too many problems, but if we did there is always the hotel next door and guests can use those facilities in an emergency, so we think we''ve got it pretty well covered!

We have a back up tank at our place, which we needed in May and it was a godsend.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

If I had renters and the water was out for a day, I would compensate them something.  I would also compensate them if the ACs or frig did not work for more than 1 day.

Without wishing to cause outrage, I would say as a paying guest in rented accommodation you should expect the same levels of service as you would at a hotel or if booked through a tour operator, that is to say that if the property is not as advertised or fit for purpose you should be entitled to some recompense.

However, thats not to say that some contracts do not have clauses for "acts of god" and "force majeure". Legally I would certainly not be in a position to advise, however good customer service and indeed business sense say that an agreement should be reached.

Considering a tanker of water is approx 30/40 ytl here in Fethiye that sounds like OTT There is making a profit and making a very big Profit

The current rate in Kalkan for a tanker of water is 40 ytl. That includes the services of the tanker driver when he transfers the water from the tanker to the water tank you have.

£50 is rather more than a profit, it is extortion.
