Restaurants in Kalkan
« on: July 06, 2008, 02:54:33 PM »
This is my first post on EnjoyKalkan - so please bear with me if I don''t get things right first time.  Have been going to Kalkan for four years now, have stayed at the Regency and more recently the Samira which we love.
With the credit crunch hitting us hard at home I would be interested in other members reviews of reasonably priced restaurants.  We have in previous years gone to Daphne''s (our favourite), Gironda, Coast, Kosk etc - all quite expensive.  We are looking for something more reasonable and tasty!!!
All suggestions welcome!!
Will be in Kalkan from 15 August.

You can eat quite reasonably at the following:
Extinct (for fish)- free meze and salad.
Isos - free Borek, very reasonable
Omar''s Kitchen - wonderful Kofte
Oz Adana - great Pide, comes with free salad
Ali Baba (by PTT) - where locals eat, lovely soups, lots of vegetarian dishes, very basic but the food is superb.

We don''t pay much more than £25 for 2 including drinks.

Hi Littlelin - if you are paying £25 for two in any of the places that you mention you are certainly paying well over the odds or have a very large drinks bill :D

I''d agree with Littlelin. £25 is very reasonable if you have 2 courses and drinks such as a bottle wine in the evening, I wouldn''t say you would be paying over the odds !! We have ate in Extinct and the food was lovely with a nice relaxed atmosphere.

We also ate at Extinct 5 weeks ago roughly about £30 for 3 people including drinks.

Extinct has been around for 2 years now. The first couple of times we ate there we didn''t think it would survive - because it was very quiet and the location is not great for a fish restaurant - but happily because it''s great value and has a very friendly and commited owner, it seems to have won through.

We are looking forward to at least two or three meals there after we arrive in Kalkan on Thursday for two weeks.

Hi IssyG,
Just wanted to add - Sofra, IBO Terrace and Olive Garden to Littelins list as places to go for a meal as good as anywhere in Kalkan, but not as pricey as say Aubergine or Gironda.

And if you fancy something on the harbour there''s the wonderful Kebab House.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Kevincat99 -what I meant was £25 is probably the average particularly if we have a bottle of wine. Obviously eating at Ali Babas or Oz Adana with a couple of beers instead is a lot cheaper, around 30YTL. We''re not heavy drinkers, far from it, but we do like a glass or two on our balcony before (and after) dinner.

We visited Adams restaurant for the first time. I thought it was excellent. The food was wonderfully cooked, the setting was magnificent and the prices more than reasonable. Well worth making the effort to get out of town for an evening.

My family and I have just spent a wonderful 10 days in Kalkan and found we could eat very well and very diversly without spending too much at all. As there were quite a few of us it was important to find places that could provide filling meals for those of us with rather larger appetites and yet still cater for the grandchildren too.
Our favourites were Marina restaurant in the harbour who do great salads and very tasty pizzas. Isos along from Sofra who do very nice Turkish casseroles and will cook specially for the kids. Maya restaurant next door to Bilabong where although the menu is limited it is Turkish and it changes every day. Our absolute favourite was Zula along from Belgins kitchin where you could eat in the cafe downstairs or have a sumptuous meal on the terrace. the kids particularly liked the homemade burgers and at only 7 lira a go were a bargain. My favourite were the steaks which were great and the variety you could choose from was mind boggling.
I should say that in all our time in Kalkan we didn''''t have a disappointing meal anywhere.
