Wine and Cider in Kalkan?
« on: August 18, 2008, 01:21:49 PM »
Maybe a silly question, and apologies if it has been answered before.  I am off to Kalkan in a couple of weeks for the first time - getting very excited now!  Just wondered about the wine, and if any of you experts can give some advice on what to drink that would satisfy a liking for a nice crisp dry white wine?  As a new visitor to Turkey I don''t have any knowledge of the wine at all..

Also, my travelling companion doesn''t drink beer or spirits, but loves cider.  Is cider available?  She is a Scrumpy Jack fan, but beggars can''t be choosers and I''m sure she would drink any type really!

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Not a silly question at all! we all need to identify our favourite tipples when away. I am a dry white fan, and the Angora white found in all supermarkets and restuarants will satisfy your tastebuds well, and if you want a Rose the LAL is very agreeable also. The Angora red is very nice too as is KAS
I dont think cider is readily available, but I am sure you will soon get a response on that particular tipple.

Enjoy!

We tried to get Cider this summer from the supermarkets but had no luck. The only place we got it was in a restaurant in Kas. It was Turkish and really good so I don''t understand why other places don''t seem to sell it.

Or Cankaya - another very nice white.  Slightly more expensive than Angora.  My favourite one in Kalkan!

Thanks so much everyone- sounds like Angora will do the job and will be on the list for that first trip to the supermarket on day 1.  I am already imagining sitting on the balcony with a chilled glass and looking at that view of the bay - I have looked at so many pictures I almost feel I have been there already.

My friend will be happy with white wine in the absence of cider, so that''s us sorted!

Thanks for all the quick replies guys- I will go and send her an email to let her know!
