Pharmacy?
« on: June 18, 2008, 03:44:46 PM »
Is there any need for me to bring all the usual non prescription medical bits and pieces (e.g. painkillers, tummy trouble tablets, anti-septic creams etc etc) you sometimes need for those annoying little aillments you can get on hols or is there a good pharmacy in Kalkan? Hope to goodness we won''t be needing them though, cheers!

Sincerely hope you won''t need them but the pharmacys in Kalkan - there are at least 2 - are great. Most stuff is cheaper than UK as well.

A few years ago when I was there I got an  infection & went to the pharmacist to find out about doctors. Having spoken to the pharmacist he was able to prescribe me antibiotics (which I had to pay for - £20 as far as I remember). It wasn''t just penicillin but one specifically for that sort of infection & it cleared up in a couple of days. I was most impressed.

The pharmacy have everything and always understand what you want - and it''s much much cheaper!! Even though a lot of it''s imported from England!

as previous posters have said you can get virtually everything in kalkan pharmacys.they speak english so making your request is no problem..i had a clod sore and asked for zovirex...i was given a turkish equivalent(asiviral) in a tube 5 times the size of zivirex(£5.99 uk) it cleared it up in a flash and was about £1 in lira...you can also find sun lotions etc at the same prices as the u.k..so we don''t cart that with us either ;)

No disrespect to Blue Lizard (how could I/ :D) but if you favour a special & particular sun cream (I have to use Piz Buin allergy) I would advise bringing it with you just in case. When I was there last year, late September/early October, stocks of sun cream were not good.

Medication I would not bother taking the pharmacy is cheap and has everything, including anti biotics for those ear infections etc very cheap and good, however I found suncream more expensive, Tesco have some good offers on at the moment.

Thanks for all your advice, think I''ll just pack the absolute essentials to tide us over until the following morning (we''ll be arriving late evening) and then buy as we need. I agree, it''s surprising how heavy all your toiletries and meds weigh, it''ll make room for another pair of flip-flops or two!! Cheers!
