Internet Provider recommendations?
« on: August 28, 2015, 10:51:30 AM »
Hi
Can anyone recommend a reliable Internet Provider? What is the process here? Do you need a phone line?
Thanks

i think you will find that there is not a huge choice if any choice at all - TTNet/Turkcell are the main provider and no you dont need a telephone but obviously you need a line to your house!

We changed our Internet system this year to the Point-to-Point system which is a radio system and doesn't require a cable. The benefit is that you only pay for the months you need internet access at 50TL/month. There is an upfront one-off cost which I think was 350TL. I am not in Kalkan at the moment so can't remember the contact details but the chaps name is Recep. I am sure someone on here will be able to give you contact details. By the way the speed is good and allows us to watch UK TV using FilmOn with no problem.
Hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks for the info but unfortunately that is who we use at the moment. His system is proving unreliable. For occasional users like holiday makers it might be OK, but for someone who intends to live here all year round like me and relies on it, it's not good. The Internet goes off and on constantly. I think maybe he has overloaded his system with too many clients and isn't upgrading his system as his client base increases and with high demand between June to October, it obviously just can't cope. Since I had it installed when I moved here at the end of July, it's been problematic. When it's running it barely achieves 1 mbps some days. My villa is not far from his main Kalkan mast so poor signal is not the problem. He was recommended to me by someone who has lived here since February. They say it was fine until the middle of May then they had nothing but problems since.

I guess I'll have to cancel the service with him and go with one of these national providers. A real shame as I wanted to support a local business.

Hi

Have lived here full time for 12 years and have always used TTnet

Very reliable and around 52 TL a month for unlimited etc etc

You can find them if you go up the steps on the left hand side of the PTT

And you don't need a telephone line to have TTNet installed either.
