Turtle spotting
« on: November 19, 2014, 10:09:18 AM »
Is there a proliferation of turtles at any particular time of year? There seem to have been a lot of people reporting sightings over the last couple of months. I've been eight times but never seen one at close range. Maybe they are hiding and waiting until I turn my back before coming out, rather like the pandas in the old KitKat commercial. When and where is best if I'd like to be reporting my own turtle experience?

Turtles!!! ...I remember many years ago going on a boat trip to Dalyan, the captain pointed out several turtles to us......but strange thing was as we got closer they didn't move...They were plastic!! Boo hiss.. we felt robbed and cheated!!...we have since seen proper turtles on occasion since at Dalyan,Kalkan  Patara and Fethiye but it really is the luck of the draw..we also remember seeing about a dozen dolphins(proper) off the coast at Kas..now that was a sight!! good luck with your turtling ;)

There were lots of turtles at the town beach this summer in August, we spent hours watching them, and they actually swam quite close to you if you were in the water.  Fascinating creatures, it was a sight to be seen, beautiful.  :D

Over the years we have been coming we have never seen so many turtles in the Kalkan bay, this year has been quite exciting, not just in the bay, we have seen them on several boat trips in different areas. Perhaps it's a good sign that the waters are improving. Yesterday we saw 3 & some friends we bumped into had been watching from a different location. We have seen dolphins  but not for several years.

My daughter saw a few while on the pontoon at Palm Beach in September and we saw one just outside the swimming area of the town beach while on a boat trip in October. Never seen them before.
