Mad Dogs and English Men
« on: July 14, 2014, 08:08:59 PM »
Second newbie question. As stated we are at the Samira but not the one in town. Now given my ability to drink and eat ridiculous amounts for a little fella I do try and keep fit and run. Now I'm not too stupid to go out running in the midday sun but given the comments about "cardiac hill" etc am I really being ambitious if I take in an early morning 2-3 miles on them there hills?

Hi mcrterry, welcome to the forum. You've made a good choice with Kalkan, I'm sure you will love it. Some people do run in Kalkan, but the hills are quite challenging. Walking up and down them is great exercise and helps with the over-eating/drinking regime :). Staying up at Samira Resort, you will find walking back and to from there will help prevent your shorts from getting tighter ;D. Not sure what time of year you are going, but in August it's very hot even early morning so if you do plan to run at that time of year, make sure it's super early.
Have a great stay and do let us know what you think when you're there, or when you get back.
Enjoy!
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Thanks Kalkan4E. We arrive 11.08.14 so realise it will be hot. I dont mind the hills but my 13 year old daughter will no doubt have something to say.

You could run from the Samira  to the Mediteran apartments, basically on same level   , both hotels are  on same  road  called "ISTIKLAL CADDESI,  there and back would be a good run, probibly about 3  klm there/back   , slight incline from Samira to Mediteran, but nothing as treacherous as trying to run up cardiac hill

Hello mcterry!
You could also run on the main road from the Gasolin station(below samira) in direction Kas.
I do that also in july-august. You have to start around 07.15. It is rather hot, but the you will
Not be hit by the sun as the road is in the shade of the mountains. At 08.00 the sun hits
The gasolin station. Starting 07.15 and run 5km will be fine. Also nice view when running there.
5km will keep you fit during holiday, but your caloriintake is probably twice the normal. i always gain
Aprox 3kg in 14 days. ;D

Thanks for that tip geirarne I'm an early riser but not sure I can do 7:15!! In fact whilst on holiday I forget theres two 7:15's in a day. 5k in the heat might just be possible.
