Spoof email rental enquiry 10-17 May 2015

Just to let you know I have received 2 spoof emails via OD in the last week from hacked accounts one was from an email ending in @sportbf.com others have reported the same on laymyhat.com . tonight was got one from brandondeclan2(at)gmx.com ... I've reported both to OD . but it seems that some turkish villa owners are being targeted..
advice from OD was to change my OD password and email password if I had replied to either.....

Apparently if you reply the next stage of the scam is you get an email supposedly from OD asking for you to do some maintenance (like sync calendar) if you follow their fake link they get your OD username and password and scam others with fake bookings.

I received what appears to be a spoof rental enquiry from OD.  After the person accepted the rental, she asked for the bank details.  I sent her our contract which contains bank information.  The next day I received from her a poor copy of a bank payment made in AUD to a company in Brazil.  Needless to say, I never received a real deposit from her.

We own an apt in Spain and rent it out in the summer. The Spanish gov every couple of years sends a fake rental enquiry to gain bank information and verify how much owners are getting in rental income.  Some of these emails actually come with a return address of the local municipal tax office (stupid people!).   In the same vein, I suspect the author of this fake enquiry for our Kalkan villa is the Turkish gov tax dept.  We pay taxes on rentals in both countries but be aware that you may be providing information that could be used against you if you are not paying tax on rental income.

PS. I am not aware that my OD account was hacked (but maybe it was).  The fake enquiry came directly from the 'Contact the Owner' link on OD.  Just a regular enquiry.

Cosetta the spoof enquiries I received were from the OD click here, the email addy included were for hacked email accounts (according to OD but thinking about it not sure how OD knew this or if it makes sense) the attempt was to get my real email address and send me a link to a scam phishing site to obtain my OD logon details so they could then hack my OD account..

Thanks for alerting us Hobbo.  I too received 2 emails for 10 - 17 May rental one from the address ending @sportbf.com and the second from savannahzachery8@gmx.com  I did reply to both but have had no follow up emails from them.
