Small Hotels own drink/takeaways

Hi Guys,
What's the normal rule of thumb with the smaller hotels and bringing your own drinks ect back to the hotels ?I know most have bars and roof top restaurants.

Ours is like the Gistapo. CcTV cameras, bag searches and a naughty step for offenders!
