ATM English money
« on: September 18, 2012, 11:04:12 PM »
When we were in Turkey before some ATMs gave the option of English money. As this saves us a little in charges with my bank. Can anyone advise if any in Kalkan give out English money?
Thanks

Have never seen this in Kalkan. Also some ATMs charge you on top of your bank fees.  It is much easier to change sterling and the exchange rate is usually the same as the bank.
The ATM under the Samira Hotel does not charge a fee nor does the post office.

The Guaranti Bank situated above the A101 supermarket offers this facility

Have withdrawn sterling from the ATM machine at the Garanti Bank using my Nationwide card with no additional charges.  IMHO better than carrying lots of sterling around with you.

ladyliz, we have used the HSBC bank in Fethiye to withdraw sterling and were charged exactly the same as a withdrawal for Turkish Lira - and we are customers of HSBC :( When I queried it I was told it doesn't matter what currency you take out from the ATM you are being charged for using this facility outside the UK.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Thanks for all the replies. It's all dependant on your bank but the card I'll be using will charge £1 if I lift English money and if I lift foreign currency it adds 2.75% of amount lifted as well.
We will take some lira, some sterling and also use cards rather than take a load of cash with us.
Can't wait to get to Kalkan. Roll on Thursday

And the instructions on their ATM are much easier to understand than those on another machine I used! I wanted to withdraw 300TL and ended up with 30TL!  ;D

If I need sterling I use Garanti in Kalkan or HSBC in Fethiye.I have never been charged for using HSBC debit card.
