How accurate is the accuweather LRF?
« on: April 30, 2013, 05:16:43 PM »
Evening all,

OK so I know I'm probably being daft here, but in anyone's experience how accurate is the long range forecast on accuweather? According to the site it's going to be cloudy on our day of arrival and the day after, rest of hol not yet forecasted yet. Also is accuweather the most accurate or am I best looking at the 15 day KTLN one? We just really want some sun... O0

Thank you xx

Generally, I find the long range weather forcasts innacurate. Things can change quite quickly and i wouldn't waste too much time looking at it. One year, accuvue it predicted glorious sunshine and it was cloudy and cold and another year I was dismayed to see clouds and rain and it was hot and sunny. If you look at different ones they predict different weather on the same day....I choose the one that says sunny and warm and stick with that.
The weather can be unpredictable in May (even June last year was very cloudy) so perhaps just be prepared for every possibility and then wall-to-wall sunshine is a bonus :)
I'm sure you will have a great time whatever the weather 8)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

A ok. So we could be in for a few cloudy days etc? I've only ever been in August when it is wall to wall sunshine so not sure what to expect or pack? Will jeans be too hot for an evening?

Pack the same for August but throw in a couple of pashminas and maybe a jumper for your OH as it can be quite chilly on the roof terraces in the evening. My BH has happily accepted the loan of some fairly vivid coloured pashminas when offered by the waiters when we have been there in May....so if your BH is happy to do the same he might not need a jumper :)
I wouldn't take jeans, personally as they are heavy and take up valuable blingy flip-flop weight....my Kalkan essential :) If you feel the cold, then some light trousers/maxis would be ok...and you can always buy in V&B >:D

Hi, accuweather was very accurate this Easter, but only in the short term. If you're only looking a day or two in advance, I'd say its probably right, but more than a week away I'd take it with a pinch of salt. I'm sure you will have nothing to worry about. Even if its a bit cloudy, once the sun pokes through, it will be glorious. Have a wonderful holiday!  8) :)

Right, I feel much better! Especially reading that it is as accurate as a fat kid in a pie shop! What a hoot! And K4E I am loving your style, bling on anything is a total must! I will just continue to check the webcams and keep smiling! Bless, it's become a bit of a ritual with my class, we check the webcams first thing every morning - the children love seeing somewhere different! Inspiring future Kalkanites!  ;D

I've just checked. Couple of weather Apps I've got on my IPad and one has the temperature between 84-86 while the other is talking 90-93 over the next week. I think I'd better up the factor lotion and unpack the jumpers.

Just goes to show - no matter what the name of the weather provider, No meteorologist has a clue outside 48 hours ahead!

Makes you wonder what all that equipment and expensive computers actually do ...

Mmmm - seaweed's dry, therefore it must be sunny at the moment!

bizarrely, I think the forecast for the week ahead on "Countryfile" is quite accurate...its on Sunday for the whole week and it rarely misses.
Possibly just made myself incredibly uncool :-[
