I have recently been talking to a well-known local entrepreneur/hotelier/bar-owner who is thinking about setting up a regular live music venue in the town.

I don''t want to disclose any details at this stage because it''s only an idea and he would like to gauge likely demand before taking it too far - ie soundproofing, equipment, re-arranging accommodation etc. He also doesn''t want to upset anyone!  Some of you wil probably guess who I am talking about anyway.... what do you think?

Any comments or observations? Personally I think a good live music venue could be just what is needed. But then I am biased... ;D

Up to now loud music has been avoided here in Kalkan
However, what type of music is proposed and who would be playing it???

I don''t think Turkish music would be excluded, and I think variety would be the name of the game.  Probably a bit of blues & jazz... soul maybe... tasteful danceable stuff. And volume is already identified as a potential issue, so it would be very much in keeping with the overall atmosphere of Kalkan (bearing in mind that even the Moonlight Bar can get a bit loud ;)

I guess I am biased as well!   Personally, I need a shot of Classic Rock once a week which I get with my band, but anything with genuine drive, soul and feeling  I would certainly go and see.  8)

Also there could be different music on different evenings to cater for all tastes.

Sounds good to me as long as we can have a heavy metal night: Mega Death, Toxic Killers, Rogue Angels etc etc.......

I would agree to a degree.  You can''t beat (good) live music, but I would prefer to keep the Abba and Queen tribute acts on the Costa del Crime than in Kalkan.  But if it promises to be reasonable quality music, more in keeping with the general atmosphere of the village, it could be OK.    It comes down to what you prefer: groupies or golfers.

Sounds like a good idea to me,Im not to sure about non turkish bands playing, there must be plenty of turkish bands looking for a platform for their bands, rock, blues, rap, soul or traditional turkish music, and it could maybe earn a few bob for them.
But saying that, a jamming session by non turkish residents or any musicians on holiday every now and then would be good fun.

There is a male and female duo that have played in IBO''s a few times when we have eaten there and they are really good. I believe they are local to the area and may travel around singing at venues.

I love music of all kinds but I have certain reservations as to a "proper live music venue", music played whilst I am eating in one of the many restaurants as an addition to my enjoyment of the experience is very much appreciated but a venue which is going to provide a big stage where noise that jangles the brain? I''m not sure, so long as it is confined and doesn''t pollute the surrounding areas (noise wise as some of the bars already do) otherwise I can''t go for that. My fear is that it is the beginning of a slippery slope into becoming an over commercialised tourist trap. Sorry!
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.
