Blimey!
I thought the Moonlight was on level ground. I think I have a problem.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

Jon - when I get some time - I'll put up some more phrases - but the best thing is to go to a language class as it FORCES you to learn and go - the CD and book is still in its wrapper on the shelf....!!! LOL!

The noisiest most dreadful place in Kalkan, IMHO.  Should be moved to somewhere off the main road.   All the cheery back-slapping is indeed related to the raking in of YTL.

Phew, glad someone agrees with me Cosetta,
I was getting worried that it was just me that didn't like it !,
each to their own, and I have to say Charlie it is very interesting to pick up on Turkish conversations, especially when those who are talking have no idea you can understand what they're saying !

i think Charlie meant in general..as somebody who has struggled to learn turkish i have full admiration for those who give it a go..mine is limited but i learn more each time.i can know get the gist of a conversation and indeed start one..must admit iv'e missed out on back slapping!i have known the moonlight brothers for many years and recieve a warm welcome of the more traditional double handshake and both cheeks touched ....i would much rather some one pleased to see me even showing exhuberance rather than trying to punch someones head in as in this country. but  still look on the bright side not going there means more seats for those who do like too ;)
People Of Britain.. When your missus asks "Does my bum look big in this? Never say "Dunno your blocking the light."... just sayin ????

Kudos to Charlie for speaking Turkish!  I've spent literally hundreds of hours studying Turkish, have about 6 different courses, maybe a vocab of 400+ words, have studied grammar, have gone on vacation with Turkish neighbors who do not speak English, I speak 3 other languages fluently, but Turkish .... I confess that it is in my opinion the world's most difficult language (maybe it's my age! :-[) .  I learned a dialect of Arabic more easily.

But I keep plugging away at learning it ...

I have just posted a picture of the Moonlight Bar in the Kalkan gallery so that those who dont know it can see its location. I suppose it is in a good spot for people watching but with so many other places with fantastic sea views we never thought of stopping there.

Like you Babadag I've never tried the Moonlight bar. Strange that in more than 10 years of visiting Kalkan I've yet to stop off and have a drink :o Really have no idea why not and maybe this time around I'll give it a try

moonlight is the place to be in kalkan!

as much as i love the atmosphere of yacht point and sandals in august when kalkan is at it's busiest, you just can't beat a night in moonlight during the quieter part of the season!

i was there last week and as always received the warmest welcome from the boys; arif, orun, yalcin, spencer (the new english dj) and of course muhittin. we were there every night until the wee hours; moonlight i think really does cater for everyone, the music is varied and they will play anything you ask for; from the golden oldies to the current charts to turkish favourites.

the boys all make you feel so welcome, after visiting kalkan 5 times in the last 3 years, i can honestly say they are now my friends which is proven in that i speak to them regularly on msn throughout the year!

the atmosphere is always vibrant and you know you are guaranteed a good night there despite your age! last week there was a person of every age in there, from myself, a 20 year old to a lady who was 82, and we were all up dancing together having a good time.

also this year all bars in kalkan are facing a restriction on their openning times, the jan darma now come round at 3am and shut everything down and if you fail to shut you are given an instant fine (which i witnessed last sunday) although this is slightly disappointing, mainly for the younger ones who do want to stay out, it is fairer on the locals and for the people who like a peaceful nights sleep. also, 3am is quite late particularly when bars are busy from around 7pm.

you will find me there, in my usual spot in september when i return!!

I think 3am is way late enough and would think at least 3 hours too late if I could here all the noise coming from there, whilst I know we are all on holiday and want to have fun, think of the locals who have to be up at 5am to think about work, would we like this on our door step I think not.

Are Moonlight and Utopia having a battle between themselves? The music was blaring out a full pelt from both bars last week. You'd think you were in Marmaris not laid back Kalkan. In previous years we've sat outside the Utopia, cooling ourselves with their large Efes and watching the world go by. Not this year, couldn't wait to get past them. Hope it doesn't continue or indeed spread to other bars.

It depends on what you want from an evening out. The Moonlight is as good as Utopia or the other way round depending on your mood. Competition is not what the two bars are about it's about how you feel at the time. Give them both a try.

We personally dislike the Moonlight Bar and any bar that plays loud music until 3am as we feel that it lets Kalkan down - isn't Kalkan meant to be quiet and up market?

Moonlight bar is definitely lively, but if you are females on your own beware of being charged for drinks of those who sit down to chat to you! Have to admit, as I get older, I find Utopia much more pleasant to sit at.

love it or hate it......me, i hate it, and i prromise you i'm not an old fogey.....if i want to sit in a noisy bar and drink overpriced bevvies i can do that any night of the week in rainy old london......i go to kalkan every year for the peace and the slower pace of life, and have honesty never understood why the place is always busy...would much rather sit under the trees near the harbour or on a roof terrace and watch the world.....blimey, maybe i AM an old fogey  :-\

I agree.
We've never been to the Moonlight in 3 years of holidays simply because it looks so busy, noisy and uncomfortable.
We spend the odd afternoon having a cold one outside Utopia...people watching and imprinting the fantastic views from there on the inside of our eyelids... but the evenings for us are for lovely rooftop terraces with a balmy breeze, a great meal and a lazy stroll home up the hill.
Its great that so many of you do enjoy it, but im afraid we won't be joining you any day soon! ;)

Apart from what i mentioned?
Well, we like the peace and quiet of a night on our hols, we like to go home for a moonlight dip in the pool, and we wont be in Kalkan again now for a few months.   ;D
